SCEP-TECH in the RV by Egon, a Crunch bar in his back pocket, and he's looking at the Spectral Differentializer from "Who're You Calling Two-Dimensional". The Prosecutor from GBII? Abernathy in the portrait behind the Detroit Mayor. Robo-Cop under the TV! Gremlins, ha.

Wait a sec, were those...
an homage to the Crybaby Bridge urban legend! D'oh. That was an obvious one. And the good ol Spirit of Detroit! I think the next is the Goddess of Belle Isle? Oh boy, and the Nain Rouge red gnome the Mayor referenced?

That preview alone is awesome, can't wait to read it. A shame that the covers won't line up in the correct order (I'd assumed when the image first surfaced, that Seattle would be the first stop on their tour).
Still, looking forward to Haunted America, it'll give a grand scope for real-life inspired ghosts and urban legends.

I've given up on all my monthly comics except two titles both by IDW Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In a way it's kinda ironic that the only two monthly titles I'm still reading were two of the first franchises I read as a child even if they were by different companies.
To me the Turtles and Ghostbusters titles represent what comic books should be and what they've gotten away from the writing on both titles are very good, they are mature but at the same time especially in the Ghostbusters comic there is no inappropriate language of situations that you would not want a younger person or child reading or looking at.

Oh thanks.
Any reason why their going to just 2 versions?

Well, I don't overdo it, but I am trying to fit in the realm of the (PG) movie, so I do allow hells and damns here and there. The thing that amuses me is the folks that look at Dan's cover art, say "this is a child's comic," due to cartooniness, read the script and recant "this is not for kids! Not at all!"
Others find it perfectly all-ages.
I saw a documentary about the Second City and one of the things I remember sticking out (about language) was (and I paraphrase): "It's not like we were prudes, just nobody at the time felt the need to say certain words to be funny."
(:
I think about this kind of stuff while I make Dan draw Peter on fire. I mean... I mean nothing.

So it looks like Stay Puft either just read the ending to Ghostbusters Issue #4 or just started reading DC's new 52.
Part one really got me amped for the next chapters! Kudos to Schoening and Delgado for giving each state their own look and coloring.
In terms of the road trip, it's nice to see a general outline of their trip laid down with the first chapter already!

If anyone's going to San Diego Comic Con, you got four guesses on who else will be there...
Erik Burnham wrote:Look up the Sgt. Bilko movie on the IMDb for the other half of that reference. (;
Dan Aykroyd played Colonel John Hall in the Sgt. Bilko movie. <clap> <clap> You never fail to impress, Mr. Burnham.
EDIT: Mr. Schoening dropped some knowledge on me about #9.
1. The burly ghost with the beard is another historical figure named George Royer who was a friend of Major-General Wayne.
2. On page one, panel two, obscured by the Mayor's word balloons on the left side is the painting "Gainsborough's Blue Boy," in reference to Ghostbusters II, when Janosz compared Vigo to it.
3. When Winston enters Ecto-2 on page three, in the last panel there's a mini-dry erase board. On it are the list of parts of the animated Containment Unit Egon read off in "Citizen Ghost." Sort of a running gag, they were also on Egon's board in Issue #8. Except this time, the transwarp drive is crossed out.
4. On page eight, the Crash Test Dummy is based on Larry the Crash Test Dummy, who was voiced by Lorenzo Music
5. Also on page eight, the pop art painting behind Ron and Jimmy is actually based on the Walley World logo from the "National Lampoon's...Vacation" movies
6. When Ray approaches Fort Wayne, he first talks to two ghosts posted as guards. The ghosts are based on Eugene Levy and Ben Stein.
7. Dan also said every issue will always feature: i. An American flag ii. A flag of that county/state iii. A hidden ghost truck driver from Tristan's story. Sometimes however, he is hidden behind dial balloons. The Roswell cameo is will very hard to see, as a result.

*A Hole Ghost from "The Hole in the Wall Gang" is to the right of the dummy
Actually, that's a glass "Wally World" moose cup, which Clark Griswald drinks some Eggnog from in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Additional bits:
Several elements of the Plasmic Strainer from Adventures in Slime and Space, as well as the large device (with no real purpose) from Egon's lab in The Real Ghostbusters appear on the wall above Egon in the RV. The Containment Unit shut-off, seen in Ghosts-R-Us and Revenge of Murray the Mantis is also seen on the wall. To the right of Egon, next to the portable ECU is the same hand-scan panel from Mrs Rogers' Neighborhood
A set of green glowing footprints are seen walking away from the Spirit of Detroit, referencing a practical joke by a local prankster, who painted green footprints leading from the statue to another, of a naked woman.

Thank you, Kingpin. I neglected to update that one.

Do you refer to the square port right above Egon and the Spectral Differentializer?

Ohh, I thought it was just in reference to the statue being possessed/animated/whatever.

Oh, Baby!! Mr. Jones posted a panel from his Laura Parr arc. Look what Pete's got
Apologies for the lateness of this commentary--the book came out two weeks ago. I've been having some medical issues of late...nothing major or life-threatening, but just annoying enough to put "Write snarky and not-nearly-as-funny-as-you-think-it-is-and-nobody-reads-it-anyway commentary on awesome comic book" down on the priority list
So..."Haunted America" begins.
A brief bit of set-up with Peck and Mayor Mulligan. Peck points out that the city is gonna get a lot of money from the federal and state governments for letting them "borrow" NYC contractors, which pretty much undercuts Hizzoner's displeasure with the Ghostbusters being out of town during tourist season.
Even with my affection for the RGB Containment Unit, I think it makes perfect sense and is a nice call-back to have the ECTO-9's portable ECU be patterned off the "hole in the wall" ECU in the first movie. It's a great touch, and means we sorta get to "have our cake and eat it too"--the RGB ECU in the basement, the GB1 one in the ECTO-9.
"The Ghostbusters have been to Detroit before" on the same page as gremlins in an abandoned car factory. Sure, we hear about a "Red Gnome", but between that picture and the giant portrait of the president of Generous Motors over the Mayor's desk, we know what they really mean. It got them meet Aretha Franklin, after all, who's picture is also prominantly displayed in the office--just tribute to the Queen of Soul, after all. I bet those gremlins are still trying to crack that ugly shapechanging car.
Anyway, they're in the Mayor's office because there's a problem: the "haunted tour" at Fort Wayne is actually...gulp...haunted.
Cut back to New York, and a simmering subplot we haven't looked in on in a while. Ron "Jake Kong" Alexander and Jimmy "Eddie Spencer" Doesnthavealastnameyet test their new Dematerializer prototype on Larry the Crash Test Dummy, complete with a possible logo for the new group. It.... doesn't look to be a successful test. Looks like no shouts of "Let's go, Ghost Busters!" just yet.
We all know why Ray's so eager to go into Fort Wayne. He was hoping it would turn out even half as much fun as Fort Detmerring--it didn't, but it didn't get recut into a dream sequence either. Still, it gives him a great star turn and broadens his character a bit--his bluff to get into the Fort is the kind of ball-to-the-wall BS job that's usually Venkman's territory.
Man, some of the ghosts in this issue are hideous. I wonder what dark corner of his imagination Dan reached into to pull these monsters out of, but man, it's effective.
You know I'm just kidding around, mrmichealt. Put down the musket. Please?
Anyway...the guy behind the haunting is General Anthony Wayne, for whom the Fort was named. He was a real guy. Look:
He's restless because he was shipped back to Pennsylvania for burial, but some of the pieces got lost in shipping. After giving up on the goal of getting himself together, he's decided to invade Canada. Because, after all, it's full of unAmerican things like hockey, Celine Dion, and affordable health care.
So...Venkman realizes he's not pulling his mandated level of BS this issue and starts spinning a pitch about a snake oil product called "Ahgotcha Juice" to lure the soldiers into ghost traps. Probably one of his Dad's old products--and ol' Charlie would no doubt be proud to know it worked, sucking in the entire spectral horde except Wayne himself. It's Winston, former military man himself, who convinces Wayne to accept being contained. A nice satisfying end to another great story.
We get the start of Tristan Jones' "Who Killed Laura Parr?" back-up story (the title a call-back to the 1990's show Twin Peaks, and it's famous "Who Killed Laura Palmer?" tag line) which apparently starts sometime later relative to the main "Haunted America" arc. Ms. Parr apparently dies in an auto accident caused by a ghost, and we flash to the "present" (really about twenty years ago, of course) with Venkman arriving at a diner, and that's about it. I like Jones' version of Venkman here--it looks like a slightly grittier redesign of RGB Venkman than another "We'll make him look as much like Bill Murray as we can without being sued" clone. It even comes complete with Venkman's "Camping It Up" vest.

Tidbits from #10's preview over at Newsarama:
Page 1 Dahlia from Moaning Stones is the feature design of the Mardi Gras float. Marie Cuttie from Play Them Ragtime Boos is amongst the Mardi Gras revellers. Malachi and his band from Play Them Ragtime Boos are the swing band performing with the funeral procession.
Page 2 The Ghostbusters are held up by the mob in Lafayette Square. The Ghostbusters are wearing their off-duty gear from The Real Ghostbusters
Page 3 The camera/miniature helicopter from The Hole in the Wall Gang is on a table behind Peter's seat. The gadget Peter carries out of a video store in Ghostbusters II is on the table beside the miniature helicopter. Above the table on the television is the old original Activision Ghostbusters game, showing the city view. The following panel replaces the view of the Activision game with the "Conglaturation" screen.
Page 4 Peter is wearing, and hosing the crowd with a Slime Blower, in it's first appearance in comic form since the original Real Ghostbusters in Ghostbusters II movie adaptation. The statue seen near the slimed mob is the McDonogh Monument.
Page 5 The residence of Marie Laveau is none other than Gracey Manor, AKA The Haunted Mansion (from Disneyland's New Orleans Square). The entrance foyer of the Leveau residence is patterned off of the foyer of the Disneyland Haunted Mansion. The butler is Ramsley, the spectral butler played by Terrance Stamp in the 2003 live-action Haunted Mansion movie (which starred one-time potential Winston Zeddemore actor, Eddie Murphy). Marie Laveau's representative appears to be modelled off of Billy Dee Williams.
Page 6 The Moaning Stones of Tangalla are sat on the table behind Ray. A painting of Hotel Boudreaux from Play Them Ragtime Boos is hung on the wall behind Marie.
Page 7 The tribal mask, last seen in Jim Silver's apartment is seen behing Marie's daughter, near the fire. The I-10 bridge can be seen behind Marie's daughter.

Page 4 - Peter does a callback to his "fuzzy on bad" line from the first movie
Page 5 - Winston's got the KUD Meter andthere were one or two politicians with the surname Thibodeaux as well as the name of a city in Louisiana.

Drat. I've still got theories...some dumb some less dumb.
1) Could be one of the RGB or EGB main cast not used yet (RGB Peter [In What in Samhain Just Happened?!], EGB Egon, and Kylie have been used so far) re-purposed as a 'new' character
2) Dr. Selwyn from The Video Game - she was a guest curator and Chicago might fit as her home base since her adopted parents associated with the prestigious Chicago Institute for Ancient Eastern Studies and she got a college scholarship from the Chicago Institute plus some Peter-Ilyssa banter would be awesome
3) A new character based on someone famous like Egon's un-named friend in Issue #4
