Discuss the Ghostbusters Comic from IDW, as well as the now defunct Ghostbusters: Legion series.

I get the IDW Ghostbusters comics and enjoy them a lot and in the monthly series I've started noticing some stuff, some of it is easy to notice cause its part of the story and some of it thrown in the background. There's even stuff tying in the movies, the Real Ghostbusters, the Video Game, and even the Extreme Ghostbusters together in the comics. For example the Rookie and events from the game are mentioned, and Walter Peck and the Paranormal Contracts Oversight Commission (P.C.O.C.) continue on from the game into the series. As for the Real Ghostbusters all I've really noticed is that Janine and the PKE meter look more like they're from RGB than the movies and the fire house is mostly taken from the movies where as the main floor and upstairs look like they do in the movies and video game, but in issue 3 Winston goes to the basement containment unit room to talk to Ray and it looks like the room from RGB where the room and containment unit are pretty large as opposed the movies and game. As for Extreme Ghostbusters tie in's in the same issue in the containment room Ray is working on the megatrap which looks like an over sized standard trap used in EGB, in #4 Winston is wearing an EGB proton pack during the roof top battle, but the biggest tie in with EGB would be that in #5 we see that Extreme Ghostbuster Kylie works at Ray's Occult Books. Aside from Ray's store the gaga meter from GB II is also used in #5. Ecto looks mostly like the 1A with some minor differences, those being that the original no ghost logo is on the doors instead of the GB II logo, the rear painted red checker board bumper has been replaced with a regular bumper, there is no hood logo, the code 3 beacon bar lenses are once again blue, and in my opinion the worst difference is that they took the red fins off the rear end and it doesn't look right with them gone.

There are other things to be noticed too that aren't really Ghostbusters tie in's but more of that era tie in's. Like in issue 1 in Ray's dream at the beginning of the book the Blues Mobile is parked on the road where the Ray Puft Marshmallow Man is walking down, which ends up making sense since Ray has a talk with Jake Blues in his dream in the issue (and again in issue 4).

In issue 2 there's a panel where the Ecto 1 is driving on a bridge going one way and on opposite side going the other direction is the Real Ghostbusters toy "The Highway Haunter", a VW Beetle convertible that turns into a mantis looking spook. Also towards the end of the book there's a child in a stroller that looks strangely like Egon from the Real Ghostbusters.

On the 1st page of #3 the terror bear has launched K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider into the air, while latter on when the boys are on the bridge with a flat tire the A-Team drives past them and the driver calls out the window "Ghostbusters suck!" In that same panel there is a blue person (possibly a ghost or something) standing on a bridge beam above them, I don't know what or who that is suppose to be though.

In #4 the helicopter pilot to me looks like Kareem Abdul Jabbar's character from the movie Airplane, but maybe I'm wrong. And when Ray runs off with the megatrap to take care of Stay Puft the tenant of the apartment he goes into is a character played by John Candy on the late 70's and early 80's tv show SCTV.

In issue 5 the clown at the beginning of the story looks a lot like Pennywise the clown from the ABC mini series Stephen King's It, and you may notice the store Shandor's Soda Shoppe in the block of stores. After leaving the gym with Peter, Egon notices whoever that was that he noticed and standing beside him would be Bobby Brown how he appeared when he did "On Our Own" for the GB II soundtrack, and I'm only assuming that is a younger Whitney Houston (R.I.P.) standing next to him.

I haven't really noticed anything from issues 6 or 7. Has anyone else noticed anything else from the series?

Namaste, Fritz. I learned from the best.

Matt Campell, my lists here in this forum are not absolute. Due to the nature of posting, I can't go back and edit my lists once someone replies after me. So be sure to read a little after my lists, usually someone spotted something else or corrected me. I posted on or right after the release date but to make things a bit more expedient for you, here's a few I found:

Issue #7 - http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtop ... 21#p383421

Issue #6 - http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtop ... 37#p377337

Issue #5 - http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtop ... 52#p371952

Issue #4 - http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtop ... 72#p366772

I don't have the links for my posts about the first three issues offhand. But I contribute over at the Ghostbusters Wiki and have the full lists up for the first three issues so far (per our spoiler policy).

Issue #2 - http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/IDW_ ... s_2#Trivia

Issue #1 - http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/IDW_ ... s_1#Trivia

Hope that helped out, Matt

Unfortunately, the 1959 Cadillac likeness is still an active trademark/copyright... so in order to have Ecto-1 look like it did in the movies, IDW would have to pay General Motors a significant fee, and also subject all appearances to the scrutiny of the General Motors legal department.

Which SCTV Character?
#384418
I'm not sure of the name and I haven't seen SCTV for a long time, but I'm positive I seen the character on SCTV.
#384437
I was under the impression that it was a reference to the John Candy's idea for Louis Tully. To be a german man with a lot of dogs, it was part of the reason he ended up not doing Ghostbusters as he could not figure out the character.
