Huhn, figured Ron would spend the next arc in a body cast. Almost killed off? Hmm. Ghost Ships, eh? Sounds like a job for Proton Grenades. heh.

Also, back on that interview, that idea about Roger and Egon made me think of an stalled elevator scene. Maybe there's a bust at City College and Egon happens to get stuck in an elevator with Roger while the others deal with the entities gunking up the place?

Wow. Great issue guys! I can't wait to see where this goes.

Good use of Hardemeyer. Schmarmy bastard. And great story twist of at first thinking the Park Ghost was the one that captured the guys because of the similarities to what Kylie found in the book, only to have it be an unrelated ghost. Erik - I appreciate these side jobs you keep in there, so it doesn't lose the touch that there's always more going on than just the "big story" ghost.

Main Story: Much better than last issue, can't beat a jaunt through Central Park I guess. lol

*Jack Hardemeyer - definitely retained that PR angle from Ghostbusters II but not as antagonistic as I remember but I guess he mellowed out after 5-6 years or so
*Stylized Rookie reference made me smile
*Melanie Ortiz just scored a lot of brownie points with that one punch to Guy Gardner...er Ron Alexander
*And pretty much confirmation summoning the four demons was Idulnas' plan - that was a wicked scene with the "I saved two! I damned four! bit in reference to Janosz' sister and nephew and the GBs
*Janine was so awesome at the end, master of negotiation. haha. She knows what's she's doing, she even lead a Ghostbusters team before in the IDW continuity.
*Poor Tiyah. But have some faith!

I was concerned about the new team after seeing how few lines the women on Ron's crew got in earlier issues. Now I see my concerns were misplaced. Mr. Burnham, you created fully realized and assertive characters on par with their counterparts. My hat is off to you.

Hmm, more thoughts popped into brain about #2

If the guys are blowing a hole back to the physical plane...the four demons would simply kidnap them again considering what Kylie said and the design in Janosz' room. These guys seem rather powerful but instead of a direct battle, I'm wondering if the GBs are going to figure out the connection and douse Janosz' room in positively charged slime - that should erase the design and thus nullify the ritual? And I guess in the process, Janosz also gets slimed and Idulnas gets thrown out of his body. Given his current state, seems like a few Boson Darts would destroy him once and for all...

But once that problem is solved... what of the hole? It seems possible it will just stay open and provide the opportunity for big nasties to start pouring through or even the danger of dimensions merging like in The Video Game, sorta the 'ambient P.K.E. field' of Volume 2 and it's up to Egon and Ray to figure out a way to seal it. Throw in Ray's spirit guide popping in with a "I warned you in Issue #14!" speech.

time is apparently moving slower in Limbo? Tiyah mentions the guys being gone for months and it cuts to them still just planning things out. I'm not sure if this is just the narrative of the comic or an actual "meanwhile" cut. I wonder how that's going to come into play here. Very unfortunate timing considering Tiyah and Winston's recent development. I hope this doesn't put too much strain on their relationship. I really like those cuties together.

Another good issue, and further expanding on New York's paranormal landscape of weird and terrifying supernatural entities. You wouldn't have gotten a serial killer in The Real Ghostbusters or Extreme Ghostbusters.

The banter with Hardemeyer provided great dialogue for Janine, and she's really coming into her own as the de-facto leader, much to Ron's chagrin.

I'm also enjoying Melanie getting to put her FBI training to use in the field... as well as kick the living crap out of Ron.


Another good issue guys, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the story unfolds.

Picked up the newest issue yesterday.


The Ghost of a serial killer now we're talkin!!!! Seriously Ive been waiting for a story like this for a long time. Ok so far so good with this new arc. It was good to see Ortiz read Ron the riot act for that bout of stupidity. Now this version of Kylie seems a little more bubbly than her EGB counterpart (or am I just imagining things).

So from what Ive seen Idulnas used Janosz in his insanity to summon the demons that captured the RGBs very interesting.

Im enjoying "In the Box" so far. Samhain acting as a guide to newly incarcerated ghosts is an interesting idea.

I dunno if Dan went that far -- I provided the Greek translation for the title in the script (well, via the internet, so it's 50/50 for accuracy.) (:

Looks like Dan did after all. The body of Greek text refers to Abaddon. While popular as a demon, the Devil, or the Antichrist. In Rabbinical literature, Abaddon is a 'realm where the damned lie' so seems to be talking about the limbo the guys are stuck in.

That's some cool Central Park trivia, Kingpin. Can't believe I forgot about Tom's Restaurant. Also on page 19, the store to the left of the Shears of Fate referenced Lorenzo Music but it got cut off in print.

Fritz Babbles About Ghostbusters #2

Well, Peck sends his new overseer, and low and behold, it's Jack Hardemeyer. I guess it makes sense--they were just about the same guy, in that they were the dickless, jack-off government bureaucrat giving the Ghostbusters hell in their respective movies. Unsurprisingly, since the first order of business is dressing the female Ghostbusters up in the shortpants outfits seen on the covers of #1, Janine is already ready to throttle the guy.

I'm sure the fact that the costume company screwed up and gave her Venkman's colors and then gave Egon's to Ron Alexander--who got a REAL flight suit with long pants and everything--doesn't help her mood either.

Anyway, she snarls a lot and lets Boris Meely (apparently on loan from Random Choice)get the photo shoot over with; the pictures include the four covers of #1, the main cover of #2, and a couple other pictures--most notably the New Ghostbusters reenacting the Ghostbusters 2 promo image, with Kylie and Melanie taking Ray and Winston's respective places, while Janine and Ron go more for the personality fit instead of the color fit--meaning Janine as Egon, Ron as Venkman. Which always made more sense to me but yeah, I'll let that go now.

So, anyway, plot happens as a frantic jogger comes into GBCentral and tells them that he was attacked by a ghost muttering "You'll never find them!" Holy crap--this guy knows something about what happened to the Ghostbusters!

Hardemeyer earns his second strike when Janine discovers that the flight suits have been removed and stored; they'll have to go bust the ghost in the shorts.

The New Ghostbusters go to the park, and Ron is not making any friends. He's used to being the one in charge, and Janine is having none of that. "I was in the movies, you loser--I automatically rate much higher than you ever will!" And when the ghost they're looking for shows up with a would-be victim, Ron recklessly shoots at the ghost heedless of the aforementioned would-be victim, which earns him a much-deserved stream of Spanish abuse and a right cross from Melanie.

Kylie: "Spanish is such a great language for insults. You oughta hear my boyfriend when his brother Carlos makes him mad."

But with all of this comes some good news and bad news: Melanie recognizes the ghost from FBI case files. He's a serial killer; the good news is that they know what's up with the ghost, and use it to their advantage--Melanie claims they'd found all of the killer's victims, which pisses him off so bad he gets sloppy and trapped easily. The bad news is that he had nothing to do with the Ghostbusters' disappearance, so they're back to square one. For the moment.

Things get a little better when the New Ghostbusters get back to HQ and Janine orders Hardemeyer to take a look a their legs (He wasn't already? Is Hardemeyer gay? That could give his nickname "Hard-On" a whole new meaning...), which are all cut and bruised from chasing the ghost killer through the bushes and stuff in the park. Janine threatens to out him...as a sexist oaf unless he gets the flight suits back. Not wanting to be strangled, Jack relents and says the uniforms will be back the next morning.

Then Kylie takes a call from Dr. Cleese at Parkview (I wonder which one would do a better John Cleese impression? Frank Welker or Maurice LaMarche?) about Poha redecorating his padded room two issues/three months ago. All of a sudden, Kylie realizes, the New Ghostbusters may have a new lead!

Janine meets Tiyah Clarke, Winston's fiance, at a Pequods (undoubtedly across the street from another Pequods). I just love the subtext of this, when even Tiyah, the woman who wants to marry
Winston, is giving up on the real Ghostbusters before Janine is.

And of course, Janine is right--as we see in cutscenes throughout the issue, the Ghostbusters have awakened on the Flip Side, and from their perspective it seems only a few hours have passed at most. Fortunately, Ray was abducted while wearing his proton pack--and he and Egon have launched a desperate plan that will either get them back home or destroy the known universe.

You know, business as usual for the Ghostbusters.

The backup story continues to roll along as Samhain introduces the newest inhabitant of the ECU to some of his other new neighbors, including Mr. Stay Puft and the Haunted Human toy line.

No Fearsome Flush? I demand Fearsome Flush.

Yeah, I know, Sony probably said no toilet humor. Sigh.

Eduardo has not actually been seen or mentioned in this series.

In an interview about a Baxter Stockman TMNT comic, Erik Burnham divulged some hints of what's to come in Volume 2:

As I type this, I just turned in the wrap up for the first arc, the New Ghostbusters -- currently writing the next arc which'll feature Egon trying to keep a ghost from abducting Janine's soul, and Kylie hunting a ghost ship with Peter and Ray, amongst other things.

Very good, very good. Seemingly advancing the Egon-Janine subplot and more Kylie.
