Hi.

My name is Tim Lawrence and I was the Creature Shop Supervisor for GB2 and also played the ghost "Nunzio".

I came across the 1989 Lucasfilm Yearbook and thought you'd be interested in some scans. Quality not great because of the heavy, textured paper in the book but you might not have seen some of the pix. This is the first time I've tried using FlickR to host the pix so Let's hope it works!

Scan 2 - Top left picture (l/r). Bill Forsche was one of fourteen artists I brought with me from L.A. to Marin. He had two responsibilities: to sculpt and to video document our process. I got special permission from ILM for Bill to have camera access to the work and you have all seen his results. Thank you, Bill. Among other things, Bill sculpted the face and neck for the Statue. Lorne Peterson modeled the crown and torch. In the middle is Wilhelm von Homburg (Vigo) in plaster. In addition to the neutral life-mask made for the makeup, I had two other masks made to capture the extremes in Wilhelm's face. This was good reference for where to place the appliance overlaps. To the right is Chris Goehe who was invaluable in the molds and plastics department. He had a hand in everything cast-up on the show. He was an animator on his own time and made short, funny cartoons in a style similar to Terry Gilliam's 'Python' cartoons.

Scan 3 - The picture middle left is of me in front of a Creature Shop bulletin board where Jack Haye had posted his stencil caricature of me as the movie logo. When I came in to the shop that morning everyone was wearing white t-shirts with this cartoon on them. Still have mine. Jack was very talented in a lot of directions with a great sense of humor and a great work ethic. He made a cool wooden cabinet on wheels for the Scoleri Brothers and Slimer animatronic puppet system.

Scan 4 - Top right picture (l/r). Mike Smithson was another one of the artists I brought with me from L.A. to Marin. He had two main responsibilities: sculpture and the Vigo prosthetic makeup. He sculpted both Scoleri heads, the Statue's feet, the miniature Ghost Nanny puppet and more. He did a great job and GB2 would not have been as good without him. In the middle is Ed Hirsch, the ILM Stage Manager. Nothing happened on shoot days without Ed already having been on top of it for weeks. If anything came up he was right there with a fix. Boundless energy that kept it (us) all moving. On the right is Howie Weed in Mike's makeup. Dan Aykroyd did not want to wear the appliances and it didn't matter since no one would be recognizable under it so Howie volunteered and we sent him down to L.A. to be fitted by Dr. Morton Greenspoon for scleral contacts and he's the Vigo monster in the film. Howie worked on maquette development for the Scoleri's and Slimer, sculpted Nunzio's arms and painted all his character parts and a lot more. Good guy.

Those are my eyes glaring out of Nunzio's gaping maw.

That's Jim Fye recoiling from Nunzio's arms.

Scan 5 - Bottom left picture (l/r). Kim Marks (key visual effects camera operator) reading his light meter for a 'wire' shot of Nunzio for the capture sequence at the end of the courtroom scene. Next to him I'm just hanging out, making my 'Mr. Creosote' face.

Thanks for posting the pics!

I'm with you on FlickR. It's definitely not my fav. I've found that Imgur is pretty easy to use! When you upload the images to Imgur, right click/open in new window, then copy/paste that URL to the forum. There's a little image button in the post editor that will automatically add the code to display the image in the post.
