Discuss the new Ghostbusters movie to be released in 2016, directed by Paul Feig.

Ok, so we all know how there's a great number of people who don't really care for Ecto1A in comparison to Ecto-1. Being the '85 baby that I am, I was introduced to GB2 before GB1, so at 4 years old, I fell in love with all of Ecto 1A's colorful lights and gizmos. Its ingrained in me. Over the years I've come to love Ecto-1 for the classic brilliance that she is. But 26 years ago? I thought it was the most boring car ever. Annnnnnyway. Specifically for those who hate the look of Ecto 1A...

Question. How does your opinion of Ecto 1A change in strict comparison to (IMHO) the abomination of the Ecto-1 reboot?

The Feig-mobile just plain sucks compared to Ecto-1, Ecto-1A and the some of the fan-built Ectomobiles.

I have always liked the Ecto-1A more. It has a charm the original doesn't have. I know most don't care for it because it's too colorful but the new lights could be attributed to the holidays. I dig the hazard striping and the message board had to be the best addition. The entire car had a larger than life, new and improved vibe and rightfully so since it's a sequel. Not unlike the DeLorean time machine's hover capability and Mr. Fusion in BTTF2. I don't think this was done just to sell toys, the cartoon had that wired well before GB2 came out! Such a pity the car is currently a rotting corpse. My only hope is when this sham of a reboot comes out, its ripples will draw more appreciation for GB2 and all things related.

As for the reboot Ectomobile? I have nothing constructive to say...

1A was a little over-the-top for me. Just too much crammed on the roof. I do understand the desire to step things up a notch for a sequel, I just think they overdid it. I still like the 1A a little bit, I just prefer the original.

The Feig-mobile looks like... pardon my French... poop. It is as if the Feig team scoured this board for all the pics of the fan-made Ectos we make fun of, and used them as a template. Big ugly light, the logo on the door is incorrect as the red "no" symbol is too skinny, trim on the door interferes with the logo, roof rack and "equipment" looks ugly... it's just bad.

I have always preferred the Ecto-1 over the 1A. I always felt they went a little overboard with the roof stuffs on the 1A. It's grown on me more over the years, but the Ecto-1 is still tops in my book.

As for the Feig-moblie, well, I don't know what to say. It's so bland and uninspiring. It's just awful.

I never had an issue with the 1a. Sure it's a little over the top but when you actually examine the roof gear, it all has its place. The Feig car is dull & uninspiring. It must have taken the designers all of 30 minutes to dream up. I don't even see how they can correctly refer to it as Ecto 1. Nothing more too say other than it should called Feig 1 from now on!

I like the 84 Ecto-1 best, but I like Ecto-1A too. I like the yellow and black stripe that matches the design on ghost traps as well as the digital sign with the words on it, and the satellite dish. My only problem with it is that the amount of stuff on top of it makes me feel anxiety even though I know there's nothing to worry about. I look at it and worry that all of the weight will make the car fall over.
2016 Ecto-1 is terribly bland in comparison to either of the originals though. And I wish it could be called something else so we didn't have to differentiate the Ecto-1s when talking about them. Ecto-KO would do nicely, I believe.

Ditto. Every word.
As for the new Ecto-1, this is the first time for any of us to see the car out of context first. No one here, that I know of, saw the original or the 1A before the movie came out in behind the scenes photos. Being introduced to the original cars when watching the movies or official trailer with all the lighting, color timing, and finished look of the film helped make the impression different than these cell phone videos and candid shots of the new car. But still, makes you wonder did 30 years old in '84 think the same about a '59 caddy as we do now about a '84 caddy? And will 4 year olds in 2016 think oh that caddy is soo old and classic looking? Either way, I was really hoping that since the original had been restored they'd use that. For me it's as iconic as the logo and firehouse...

I see where you are going with this, and I do agree that this is out of context and that may affect how we view it. Also, I don't doubt that it might look better in the movie. However, that will only go so far. Seeing it on film won't negate the poor design choices like leaving on the door trim and the messed up logos. Personally I think it would be a little easier to overlook some of the other goofy-looking stuff had they done a better job with the basics.

I like GB because it's gritty, brown, muted '84 style. So ecto1.

1A was too bright & happy design for me. Just a silly over the top exaggeration.

Lol I even prefer watching the original '99 dvd for the original brownish hue and colors.

Reboot car is a circus clown car to me. In a way its a four fold increase in sillyness over 1A.

The new car has a total lack of investigative technology. No radar, no sniffer, no nothing. Just air tanks and a box. It's just boring and uncreative.

That Feigmobile is just.....WTF? This reminds reminds me of a big Halloween party I went to a couple years ago. The ads said "Come see the Ectomobile from Ghostbusters" And when we got there the "ectomobile" was some junky winter rat POS thrown onto a monster trucks frame with huge tires. It had hand painted emblems and indescribable junk strewn onto a roof rack. I had that exact same feeling when I saw the first picture of the Feigmobile. It's like some idiot that wasn't really a GB fan but had seen the movie once or twice slapped some crap on whatever hearse-ish looking generic crap box they laid there hands onto.

I have to agree that both the Ecto 1 and 1A were better than the new Feig-mobile. What really disappoints me is that all of his props look so cheap and like they were hobbled together out of spare parts in my Dad's basement. They lack the elegance that the originals had, they don't have any soul. But what I really came here to say is that almost every fan-made Ectomobile I've seen on this site looks better than the one that Feig built; it's so disappointing to see these amazing homemade and original props and then see something so ugly for the movie.

Now what would be a real head turner for an ectomobile would be an old AMC Pacer or Gremlin. Or for something newer an Aztec.

I think they should have used a 70s model Ambulance, which are just as common as an 84 and replicated the original car's rack more closely.

Thought about this the other day - Honda Element would be cool if they wanted to go early 2000s.

I think the make and model are perfect, just the livery (logos/colors) and the gizmos (that horrendous yellow bucket) let it down.

The stock version of that car has a yellow siren thats pretty suitable but it is much more subtle and less clownish.

Love the Ecto-1, love the Ecto-1a, love the reboot Ecto-1.

The Cadillac SS Victoria (1984) is a great choice for the new Ghostbusters' transportation; I especially like the view from the back Feig posted on Twitter.

All three Ectos are awesome in my opinion and the car is the strongest thing to come out of the reboot set so far.

Ecto-1.. 10/10.
Ecto-1a.. 9/10.
Ecto Reboot...8/10.

I kind of doubt he's trolling. I actually agree with him.

The Ecto-1 is my absolute favorite movie car bar none. The Ecto-1A is a bit more garrish for my taste but not bad. Now I like the new Ecto-1 it has the same spirit of the original while doing its own thing.

Not trolling at all. It's an awesome design, much better than I expected.

Exactly! I like the fact that the original Ecto-1 is a car from the 50s...I wasn't alive for that, it seems old-fashioned, cool, and exotic.

The new Ecto-1 is a car from my childhood. It's an 80s car. I remember seeing cars that looked just like that driving around my hometown when I was a kid. I think it's amazing that a car from my childhood is the new Ecto-1.

Also just for real world reasons I dont think this team would be able to get a hold of a working 1959 cadillac to use as a vehicle. This works for this team. And Im glad they went with a sort of wacky old car as opposed to a H3 or something.

Ecto 1A is supposed to look ridiculous.
It's for comedic effect, just as Ecto 1 was.
