| A cult uses the Necronomicon to release Cathulhu and only the Ghostbusters can save the day. |

| Cathulhu |
|
- This episode is a homage to horror fiction writer Howard Phillips "H.P." Lovecraft (1890-1937), whose work frequently appeared in Weird Tales magazine. He is responsible for the creation of the Cthulhu (Cathulhu here) mythos and the Necronomicon.
- "Clark Ashton" refers to Lovecraft associate and writer Clark Ashton Smith.
- "Mr. Phillips" refers to the full name of H.P. Lovecraft--Howard Phillips Lovecraft.
- "Alice Derleth" refers to August Derleth, who shaped and refined the various aspects of Lovecraft's mythos, as well as that of various authors, into a cohesive universe.
- "The Call of Cthulhu" first appeared in Weird Tales Magazine in February, 1928...sixty years before this episode aired.
- Peter's line of "Back off man. I'm a Ghostbuster" is a reference to the first Ghostbusters movie where Venkman says "Back off man. I'm a scientist" to the Head Librarian.
- Winston says sometimes he regrets answering that ad the guys put in the newspaper, referencing the first Ghostbusters movie.
- When Winston breaks free from the stone, his trap is drawn on the wrong side.
- Before the police arrive at the end, Ray's uniform is colored incorrectly.
- When Ray pulls the copy of Weird Tales from his belt the title is misspelled "wierd". |

Egon: "Cathulhu makes Gozer look like little miss sunshine"
Winston: "I say we just wait this whatever his name is to show up then we blast it!" |
