New Ghostbusters 4K Blu-ray Available Now

Sony released a new Ghostbusters Blu-ray remastered from a 4K source. While the new Blu-ray doesn't have any new features, the new transfer is considerably better than the previous Blu-ray, and the earlier DVD releases. The coloration and grain have been improved greatly making it worthwhile for anyone with a 1080P TV.

High-Def Digest has a great review of the new release, including comparison shots comparing it to the old version. The difference in many of the effects shots is night and day. DoBlu also has a great reivew with more screenshots here.

Note that while many sites call this a 4K Release (intended for viewing on a Ultra HD 4K TV) this is in fact just a 1080P Blu-ray. Normally we wouldn't bother with a release like this, but the transfer has been redone and is by far the best copy you can get.

Hot Wheels Heritage 1:18 Scale Ecto-1 Announced

Just got official word that the Heritage Ecto-1 is a go. This 1:18 scale diecast Ecto-1 will be very similar to the model that was released last year. It will be a little less detailed, but is nearly half the price of the previous model. Judging from the photo, it is possible the lightbars also have LEDs (something the original model did not)... but we do not yet have official details on that. Release will be at the end of September, just in time for Halloween!

The Ecto-1 is featured in the original Ghostbusters movie and is based on a 1959 Miller-Meteor Cadillac limo-style ambulance. This 1:18 scale, die-cast Hot Wheels Heritage Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Vehicle is a must for dedicated Ghostbusters fans!

Help Raise $10,000 for Children's Hospital Colorado

Help a Ghostbusters fan franchise make the largest charitable donation in site history! Kevin Henry of the Denver Ghostbusters and Colorado Movie Cars has been working with haunted house attractions in Denver to use his Ecto Magnum to raise money for the Children's Hospital Colorado. This past October his group raised $9,160 for the charity and they will be presenting the check to the hospital next week. Before they do that, they would really like to see the number donated hit $10,000 or more. They can't do that without your help.

To thank fans for the extra donations they are offering for a limited time a Colorado flag styled GB patch with every $10 donation. Right now they are approximately $600 away from $10,000, but time is running out.

This will easily be one of the largest donations ever made by a Ghostbusters fan group, so let's make it a special one!

New Alabama Ghostbusters Web Series

The Alabama Ghostbusters have released a new fan film which serves as the pilot episode to an ongoing web series. The pilot was a collaboration between members of the Alabama Ghostbusters and media production students at the University of Alabama. The series stars Alabama Ghostbusters Brock Parker, Bo Bearden, and "The Rookie" as they become involved in a supernatural mystery. Listen and look carefully for special guest cameos in the pilot (Ernie Hudson and Robin Shelby in uncredited cameo roles).

Episode 2 is scheduled to begin shooting in late March/early April and will be coming soon!

Amazing Lego Ghostbusters Firehouse

We posted this amazing Ghostbusters firehouse on our Facebook page a few days ago, and it has really taken off since then. The creator of the MASSIVE, 33lb Firehouse is Alex "Orion Pax". He's got a video showing off his creation (above), but there are several great photos on his website here. Definitely don't want to miss this one!

If you think it would be massively awesome to have a Ghostbusters Lego set like this one (although probably not as big as this one!), check out the Lego Cuusoo page setup for Ghostbusters. If 10,000 supporters are found, Lego will look into the feasibility of making an officialy licensed Lego Ghostbusters set!

Mattel: The company we deserved, but not the one we needed.

I don't normally post editorials like this, but I firmly believe now is the time to say these things and bring these issues to direct light. Mattel is the company that we have deserved to handle the Ghostbusters license for the past 28 years, but I think (certainly now that the action figure line is dead) that it is the company that we just didn't need.

Mattel had been selling Ghostbusters action figures for the last two years, and when they first came out we were ecstatic. We accepted everything that was given to us as pure gold, and restrained as a community to make any negative remarks in terms of accuracy, price, and quality. In hindsight, I was extremely naive to have accepted what we were given, as I'm sure many of you would agree. In the end we were blamed for the demise of the line, due to poor sales, by a 'cash strapped company' complaining that the fans were unable to keep the line alive. Mattel, you may know is the #1 toy company in the world, with revenues of more than six billion dollars in 2011, and net income (profits) of over $750 million dollars in 2011 alone. Is it really our fault Mattel has exhausted the Ghostbusters community's buyer pool? Let's look at some of the horror stories that Mattel (and MattyCollector.com) have done to some of the fans...

New Ghostbusters Comic Series Starts Today!

The "New" Ghostbusters comic series starts today, and is now available at your local comic book store, as well as the Ghostbusters Fans Shop/

The Ghostbusters are gone, spirited away by some dastardly demons from another dimension! But spectral shenanigans haven't ceased in the city that never sleeps, meaning a new group will need to step up and don the proton packs. Will the New Ghostbusters be able to rescue their predecessors, or will they share the same fate? The Ghostbusters creative super-team of Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening return to bust out more ectoplasmic excitement in this all-new Ghostbusters ongoing volume!

Factory Entertainment's Ghostbusters "Shakems"

Shown at ToyFair 2013, Factory Entertainment has unveiled their upcoming line of Ghostbusters "shakems". A shakem is like a bobble head, but the whole figure, or body bobbles. Shown so far are a Slimer, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and two variations of Stay Puft (happy, and angry). The release is scheduled for July / Aug / Sept 2013, and we will hopefully be selling these in the Ghostbusters Fans Shop.
