I don’t really know why they went out of their way to make TVG non-canon.The simple explanation is that they didn't, it's just that Jason's experience with Ghostbusters is almost certainly going to be 90% based on the movies his dad made, and then probably 10% on the ancillary stuff, and most of that 10% is probably from when he was a kid, closer to when the films were made. I'm sure he was aware of the game, but I would be kind of shocked if he had played it or if he knew more about it than, say, reading the Wikipedia or having someone else relay the story to him, and then it's like...how much do you want to have to tweak your idea around a side piece of media that 1) isn't going anywhere regardless, 2) you have no connection to, and 3) most of the audience won't be thinking about either?I just kinda wish FE started like the game with the team employed by the city.We keep having false starts with them always getting shut down at some point

The video game was great.
The great Ghostbusters were utilizing all of their 40 year experience, all their skills, all their charisma, all their intellect, all their bravery,... in flipping a really stubborn handle.
In terms of nostalgia and memberberries:
Probably few will understand the following opinion because probably few of you play video games.
Compare FE to GBTVG (realistic Remastered version), the game fleshed out the whole back story of the library Ghost (Eleanor Twitty) making her an integral serendipitous part linking GB1 and GB2. It linked the river of slime to GB1, linking both GB1 and GB2, fleshing out torbs and sloars. And in the finale the Ghostbusters (and you) actually go to the weird ghost realm and have to use cunning to defeat the large enemy. GB: TVG felt like it made GB1 and GB2 a perfect trilogy.
This will probably be impossible to understand for a non gamer, but just looking at the script of GB: TVG as a continuation of Ghostbusters 1 and 2 in NYC and comparing it to Frozen Empire feels like comparing a gourmet 3 course meal to fast food.
That's in terms of nostalgia done right. If you want to make a sequel based purely on GB1 and GB2 and nostalgia.
Obviously it won't work now the Ghostbusters are in their 70's.
But I'm just saying from a point of using nostalgia and fan service.

Tbh Phoebe, Melody & Firemaster save the day in Frozen Empire… but why are the others stood around in a line firing pointless streams. Give the OGB’s something to do in the basement trapping escaping ghosts or something.

Wait. Sony wanted them to cut the flipping the bird scene…and Feig fought that?Absolutely one of the worst bits in the movie, and in that mythical future where I've actually done my fan edit, one of the first things I can't wait to cut out.
The flipping them off scene is just everything wrong with this movie in a single scene. It’s so bad it’s cringe. they really should’ve cut at the “Suck it” part. As soon as he says “Suck it” hard cut to them in the next scene.

.If your issue is with writing criticise it for that and not “wokeness” which is meaningless and inflammatory political rhetoric.
The issue he has been (correctly) pointing out is that cramming movies full of "woke" characters... As if characters like Ellen Ripley hadn't already existed 40 years ago or could serve as a good example that both male and female audiences will like a movie regardless of the lead character's gender, assuming the movie is well written.
As to the more recent movies....Ivan Reitman's own son made the lead character a 15 year old girl, and crow bar'd a bunch of other teens in there to somehow try and have it make sense. Not that the gender really matters in terms of the story being good, but it's clear that Ghostbusters has fallen victim to some of the same shenanigans. Like Rey who was shoe horned in as the girlboss who could do Jedi mind tricks with no training, Phoebe is the 15 year old who will lead the way in both fighting mortally dangerous supernatural beings while also being enough of a brainiac to understand and build/maintain experimental technology that relies on cutting edge nuclear physics. What’s your issue with any of this so long as it’s well written - which Phoebe generally is. It’s not award winning stuff but she’s the highlight of the two movies.
On top of that, you have the awkward and silly side story crammed into Frozen Empire that appears to imply that Phoebe, a 15-year-old minor by the way, is also lesbian or bisexual in addition to being said girlboss. Again, the problem is not that the entire cast isn't straight or male, it's that the writers are clearly prioritizing cramming in every aspect of "the message" at the cost of a good plot and relatable characters. What does Phoebe’s age have to do with whether the character can be portrayed as having a crush or not? Why is it “a message” and not just a basic plot arc for a teenage character? Because it isn’t a straight crush? I’d think about what this reaction says about you.
For me personally, Ghostbusters ended with GB2 back in 1989. I'm not hopping on board this new train for GB that Jason is trying to get audiences on, and the reception to this film shows most others aren't either. For reasons thankfully more nuanced than “woke bad”.

Now, I walked out of FE very “mixed” ..but however, when most of the negative reviews/press for Afterlife wore the headlines for variants of “well the manbabies and sexists won.” Im not supposed to be a little suspicious when the next film gets slammed by said press? Lol whateverSuspicious of what, though? The part I take issue with is that you believe they have an agenda. If they really did say that about Afterlife, I would not be suspicious they won't like Frozen Empire, I would assume they are not going to like Frozen Empire.
If were going off scores here, you cant convince me that GB16 was THAT more competent than FE with its “certified fresh” 75.When we get down to it, this is probably I feel the need to keep replying to you. I'm not trying to convince you that the movie is good at all! Feel free to hate it. I'm only trying to convince you that people with different tastes than yours offered their sincere opinions on all three of those movies, without any grudge driving their opinion.
Ill die on the mountain that gb16 was a glorified bad movie and the critical praise comes off very forced and fabricated, its not something you can really “prove” or disprove. You either see it or you dont.
I mean, If you think the tiktok level humor of Chris Hemsworth disco dancing and covering his eyes to loud noises deserves a “certified fresh”..more power to you, i guess.

I use to find some of RLM’s videos funny but Critical Drinker….oh my. I loathe that man. That whole part of film discourse just…ugh.Critical Drinker is one of the few no-BS movie/media commentators left on YouTube these days. And cry about RLM all you want too...but their criticisms are all more than valid.
But Drinker and that entire “Woke Crybaby” culture just makes my blood boil. Criticizes movies and TV shows for diversity. If it has women acting like a women whilst also being strong? Oh boy. And that condescending Scottish voice. What’s hilarious is he’s actually an author and he’s a TERRIBLE writer.

You'll see at this stage we had the original half moon window behind Venkmans office. You only see this for a split second I. The original movie when the OGs are viewing the firehouse for the first time. We decided to omit the window from a cost point of view. As a lot of the practical lighting will be rigged high in the ceiling it was also unlikely we’d ever see high and wide enough to see the window. So you see as we’re designing we are constantly adapting the design to suit factors like access, lighting, SFX rigs stage space, stage height and budget.

I think part of the problem of connecting with the Spengler family is they aren't the heroes of Afterlife. They get saved by the OGBs at the last minute. At least they didn't make the same mistake with Frozen Empi—oh waitTbh Phoebe, Melody & Firemaster save the day in Frozen Empire… but why are the others stood around in a line firing pointless streams. Give the OGB’s something to do in the basement trapping escaping ghosts or something.

GB2016 basically brought in the same domestic take and ~$25M more internationally than Afterlife, and that's not adjusting for inflation. Now, I'll grant that it's likely the pandemic hurt Afterlife, but GB2016 was similarly hurt by the summer 2016 blockbuster crunch in which every movie cut off every other movie's legs.I really think Afterlife could've done $300m-$400m if the pandemic hadn't happened. We'll never know, but I think in a pandemic-free marketplace, the fate of many movies would look much different, including Afterlife and the MCU. (I would also say, as an olive branch, that the movie probably would've done even better than that if the 2016 movie hadn't happened, but I'm also generally fine with the way things have worked out, although I think all of us would've preferred not having a pandemic.)C’mon now. Cherry picking the few negative reviews to justify your stance is exactly the same schtick you're accusing me of. Lol
