3D printing (amongst others) a proton pack

Seeing as I got a bee in my bonnet and have several 3D printers at my disposal, I've decided to embark on my own pack project. Hopefully I can stick with it and not get sidetracked. A deadline of Halloween has tentatively been set (for now), so fingers crossed.. I'm using Stefan's Proton Pack plans as a starting point, then modelling the thing in Cinema 4D, adding little things like weld beads and mountjng points for greeblies and electronics..

Beat with me. I only just put the first part on, but here's a screengrab of the 3D model as I have it so far.. Just the cyclotron (which has been quartered) and a seperate N filter..

Well.. We have our first part!!

Two more parts done, though because the filament got snarled up at the end I'm redoing the N filter.. Instead of adding the holes to the print, I decided to go with pilot holes instead, because that'll give me a cleaner result. The faux weld seams came out nice, mind you..ImageImage

I redid the N filter, gave it a bit of a sand (it needs some filler primer) and drilled out the holes. The last quarter of the cyclotron is printing overnight. Next week: synchronous generator!

I dig it! That's going to be a nice looking pack!

Thanks!

Well.. Stage 1 is complete..

I wanted to do more 3D modelling over the weekend, but couldn't take my computer home (I had to take my motorcycle to work as the car is being fixed).. Hopefully more can happen this week. Need to keep up momentum.

Would you be willing to share your files? This thing looks great!!

Absolutely! I'll be taking my time, though, because I want to engineer it properly. Meanwhile, the next part is being modelled:Image

Well, here's an update.. Generator parts are on the way. They're dovetailed for extra strength and proper alignment..

That looks awesome. Have you had a chance to post your 3d files?

Thanks!

Not yet. Once I'm done with the models, then I will. I don't want to release anything until I'm completely happy with things first.

More progress.. ALICE frame arrived, found a flight suit, more pack parts printed and also printing Clippard valves..

The R-701 valve came out rather nice.. A quick spritz with satin black just to see what it looks like.. Overall rather happy. The 331 is printing overnight.

Thanks!

When I'm done and am happy with the files, then I will. I don't want to share something half-assed. I would like to do this properly.

Progress! The final components for the shell are done, now it's down to details. The PPD and booster frame both came out lovely!

Looks great! 3D printers/printing still amazes me

After pouring XTC3D resin over it, and sanding, and priming, and sanding some more, etc. I think I'm quite pleased with this. Tomorrow: the generator!Image

How much filament are you going through for this?

I think in all about four spools and a bit. I've been working through my old stock, so haven't really been keeping tabs.

Well, I've put a good few hours in and really what's left to do (aside from the wand and electronics) is add the parts I ordered from Nickatron and source the correct fasteners..

Very nice work.
I'm currently printing and assembling an 80% scale pack myself.
That XTC3D stuff is pretty handy if you can keep the runs and ripples in check.

Very nice. I like the weld lines. I am also trying to learn some 3D software by making pack parts.
