Tweaking the Fire Station Headquaters - "Mass Hysteria" or "I love this plan!"

So I've been going over plans for the LA fire station as part of a model build of the headquarters and am realizing that it's going to be almost impossible to squeeze even a compressed version of the LA23 interior in to the Ladder 8 exterior.
So I'm looking for opinions on the sacrilegiousness of extending the length of the Ladder 8 exterior from 75ft to 100ft to provide a little more breathing room for the interior.
What does everyone think?
