I was thinking it was a tease for an animation earlier this year, but it has to be a bridge story to the 2020 movie, doesn’t it? That’d sell a few copies if shouted about loudly enough!
Oh man, that cover's adapting the Real Ghostbusters promo poster.

Interesting ideas. They can only stay tight lipped for 2 more months since the solicits in March will be for June.

<squints> Oh yeah. Just like Dan when he did his spin on it with Volume 1 #1's main cover and page 5 in the first Board Game's manual.
I suppose I'll just chuck this out there to cover all bases: Comic adaptation of the first movie.

Or... An adaptation of past Gb3 unproduced script?

Unless something's recently changed, Tom Waltz put the idea to bed as it's only up to Sony as to whether something like that ever happens - so not impossible, just really unlikely.

Yeah I agree. Never say never. However they won't do it till AFTER Gb3 comes out incase people start going "the comic is the REAL ghostbusters 3" however down the line it could happen. Look at Josh whedon and Buffy , there was a fine we'd never see his original version of the movie but eventually comic came out where it showed what his version of the original buffy movie would have been.

They could use Hellbent as a bridging gap story between IDW continuity and GB2020

Got my replacement copy of the Crossing Over trade paperback from Amazon and after going through it, there's at least 2 new things. At the end of Annual 2018, there was another 15 easter egg on the table. In the issue, a dialogue box covered up most of it. Dan also fixed the Roland mistake in Issue #4, so Alan is rightfully where he should be.
Then at the end of Crossing Over #8, in the 2nd to last panel, Beckman's been added in whereas when the issue came out, he wasn't present. EDIT: Dan let me know he inserted a Kevin head cameo in every issue of Crossing Over for people to find.
*Issue #1 **In page 11 of the issue, panel 5, peaking up from the table between Kylie and Peter. *Issue #2 **In page 4 of the issue, panel 2, right of Jenny by the black chip bag. *Issue #3 **In page 16 of the issue, panel 4, in the tree right of Dani. *Issue #4 **In page 13 of the issue, panel 1, above Erin on the left. *Issue #5 **In page 9, panel 1, by the staircase on the far right. *Issue #6 **In page 1 of the issue, panel 2, right of Janine. *Issue #7 **In page 4 of the issue, panel 1, in the bush on the far right. *Issue #8 **In page 20 of the issue, panel 4, the middle inside in the display by the register.
but given planned to write a Real Ghostbusters/Transformers crossover fic about 17 years ago, I'm rather looking forward to this.
I'm guessing it'll be "Ghosts of Cybertron"

Another cross over...
At least they seeded it happening. Like Infestation involved both series but they didn't directly cross over with each other. Or in 101 #1, Zoe wondered if there was a world with robots that turn into cars.

LOL! Erik made a very enlightening statement on the IDW Facebook page. "Not all crossovers are extra dimensional, but all crossovers can reach a wider audience."
If it helps to bring in new fans to both respective comic franchises, I am all for it.
Edited Whoops Thanks Mrmichealt. LOL!

I was never really a Transformers fan. Yet, the fact that Ecto-1 will Transform as a part of that world... That's cool.
The upcoming toy was a surprise, but the miniseries is icing on the cake.
QUICK EDIT - I can't believe there are some people complaining about all the crossovers. This isn't fan-faction. This is an officially licensed property with creative teams that know what they're doing.
I mean sure, it's up to you if you tire of them; but really, what we used to regulate to action figures and imagination back in the day - now it's part of the franchise, thanks to comics. I couldn't imagine getting to a point where I'd complain about the GBs meeting all these other properties.

@ *referring to bold*
Tom mentioned in an interview back last year that they are thinking of crossing over GB with other franchises other than TMNT; and TMNT, much like Ghostbusters and Transformers did, all debuted in 1984 (a common year for all those three franchises).
And that Ecto-1 Transformer action figure looks very nice. Hmm. I can imagine what a Ecto Gundam mobile suit looks like.

Just my opinion. Vent over.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it’ll be great, as everything thus far has been. I just... all the secrecy made me hope it was related to the new movie somehow. Just anticipation getting away with me, is all, plus Hollywood Reporter undermining a proper announcement.
The only crossover I haven’t adored so far was GB/TMNT 2 and only then because the stakes for the GBs seemed pretty low. This’ll be fine!

Oh I am with you I love these crossovers. I have seen the Turtles meet Batman and The Ghostbusters I have seen the Justice League meet the Power Rangers. Like you said reminds me of all the stories I made up while playing with my toys.
