NYC Ghostbusters

So, me and a buddy are currently in the process of our first proton pack builds. We thought we were big fans of the movie before, but now we're pretty much obsessed- pouring over these message boards night and day and agonizing over every detail.

Anyway, this whole process got me thinking about joining a franchise. Much to my surprise, there was no ghostbusters group for fans in the 5 boroughs! i considered joining either the long island group or the new jersey group. both looked like they had a ton of fun and were a great group of guys and girls. However, being that NYC is kind of the heart of the actual movie, i thought we deserved our own group! So thats it. Im in the process of making a website and designing a logo. Hopefully we can even get an event together for the halloween parade. If you live in the area and you're interested, send me a pm or email me at steve.torem(at)gmail(dot)com.Hope to hear from people soon!

edit: Website is now up!

Hey there, Ecto1321,

It is pretty weird that there's no visibly founded NYC group yet, but some say it's 'cause the "original" team is the NYC team, and as such, the NYC members are kind of nebulous. Others have semi-started a NYC team, but again, it's pretty unformed. As for logo design... there's this one:

I guess, I recommend you get in touch with the other folks in NYC and meet up with them, see if there's anything going on, etc. I can think of at least 3 folks from the community who live in the city. Check 'em out!

Wow, that is a great patch. Anybody know who originally designed it? I'd love to use it but I wouldn't want to do so without their permission. I guess maybe I'll reach out to the ebay seller and see if they have any clue. Thats an interesting theory about the "original" team being from nyc. I guess its kinda hard to compete with those guys, ey? lol. Although, I would imagine it would be nearing retirement time for them anyway. I will definitely try to reach out to the other nyc folks to see if they have some interest in meeting up. If you know of any, send them my way! Thanks Fossilized!

I live just south of Central Park in Manhattan and I could host a get together and a, low key, pack work session. Sooner is better than later (pre-Halloween?).

I was just looking for a NYC group! I finished my pack last year and was surprised there wasn't any activity considering NYC is where Ghostbusters started.

Anyway I just finished my 2.0 pack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLU2ya9ZLN4

I live just south of Prospect Park Brooklyn and work in the city, if there is some kind of Halloween meet up (Parade etc.) I'd be down.

Pack looks great eightcell. I think a couple of us are going to be at comic con this weekend but we're also definitely going to be marching in the parade again this year. Last year our coordination stunk (I blame my ex gf taking 2 hours to make her zombie makeup look "pretty") and we ended up in two seperate groups. This year, we'll make sure we have a time and place set in advance of the parade so we can all end up together.

I have done the parade for years with my stormtrooper buddies and our wookies. The parade meet up is easy if you know what you are doing. I just finished a crash build and I am up for meeting the weekend before for partying and for the parade. I actually even work across the street from H&L 8.

Let me know what you guys are doing. \

Thanks! I am making a few minor adjustments still - I need to dremel down the trigger to fit on the end, add the banjo fittings and red hose). I am also missing a brass rod for the ion arm, not sure where to get that in the city.

I was working all weekend at NYCC (out of costume), but met a few GB people. I'll keep an eye out for meet up updates.

Don't worry, it never ends. Seems like every couple months I decide to tweak it slightly or modify something. Just ordered the more accurate ribbon cable to throw on there and next up is the switch from dixie bracket to proper v-hook. As for the ion arm, I would just search the forums. If you're really committed to making the whole part yourself, take a look online for metal suppliers.

You van have it made at a metal shop for about $20 or you can search home depot. I remember someone saying that they got theirs from a toilet valve kit. I have made a ton of prop modifications from plumbing parts.

This is purely for fun, back in the day my friend Bill and I thought the Ghostbusters aka Franchise 0, yet #1 in our hearts :eyeroll: should have a website. So Bill created it. I don't remember the entire idea behind it, just something they made it themselves (unlike the GBI site) and that's why it looks like it was created with "state of the art" mid 1990s web design.

Lol, I love it. Takes me back to the days of aim profiles and dial up. Little disappointed not to see any of those cheesy gif smiley faces though!
