Talk about the your favorite Ghostbusters Collectibles from Mattel, Kenner, and more.

Mattel was nice enough to send me some previews of the Real Ghostbusters Retro Peter Venkman and the Lab Coat Ray Stantz before they go on sale in the next month. I tore into the Peter Venkman figure to open that thing up as quick as I could to see if it was a Glowing Citizen Ghost figure or not. Unfortunately it wasn't...

But it did allow me to check out the sounds they put into the Venkman figure. They sound okay.. its a Lozenzo Music sound-a-like who doesn't do that bad of a job reading a few lines from Citizen Ghost.

Here are a few pictures of the figures:

The Labcoat Ray figure I think is one of the best figures they have done so far. The likeness of Dan Aykroyd is really good, and that Subway Ghost looks GREAT.

on the opposite end Jay, I think I'm going to stop buying minimates, and sell off the ones that I have. I'll be 30 in less then a month, and I think it's time to get rid of the more "childish" toys in my collection. I'm still going to collect the 6" Mattel figures, since those say "Adult Collector" right on the package LOL but I'm probably going to start putting my minis on ebay later this week...

Kingpin wrote:I wonder what the cost would be to have sampled the lines from the actual episodes themselves... that just doesn't sound like Lorenzo's Venkman.
I was thinking the same thing... it really doesn't sound that much like him. Or like the context from the episodes. It just sounds like a dude reading the lines, as opposed to them sounding like they have any inflection whatsoever.

Kinda makes you wonder if the green version will have different lines from the ghost or just the same ones. My guess is the same ones.

Awww man. I wish Mattel would send me some free product to review. Then maybe I'd actually be interested in the figures, and maybe buy a few from them in the future.

A agree 100% with Zack. Those soundbytes were HORRIBLE. If they couldn't sample audio from the episode itself, they shouldn't have bothered with the "I Talk" feature. It sounds only very vaguely like Lorenzo Music, no even close at all. And the actor didn't even sound interested in reading his lines. I, too, thought it sounded more like the computer H.A.L. in Space 2001: A Space Odyssey. In other words, very robotic and UN-lifelike. (While I was typing up my post with the H.A.L. mention, Zack made his post. So I'm not just agreeing with him because he said it first. We both thought it at the same time.)

Again, like Zack said, the poor voiceover is going to make the "I Talk" feature a NON-selling point for many.
