Originally released in 2006 by Varese Sarabande, Elmer Bernstein's musical score for Ghostbusters has become a sought-after collector's item. Sony's music arm now has plans to produce a new release of the score, currently priced at $11.98/CDN$ 13.32, featuring audio 37 tracks.

Collectors will also be given the opportunity to purchase the release on a vinyl printing, currently priced at $39.98/CDN$ 33.70.

The CD score is currently listed for preorder on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca with a release date of June 7th.

Track listing is slightly different from the older release. I wonder if we will get the actual film versions of some of the score, seeing as how there were a few bits absent from the old release. Especially hope for the film mix of Elmer's GB theme as they face off against Gozer. The released version lacked the militaristic snare and it always bugged me.

That may depend on if the listing names were created by Varese Sarabande or not (in place of nameless orchestral cues). Alternately, the differing names may've been the bright idea of somebody at Sony's music division.

This is some of the best Ghostbusters related news that I have heard in a long time. Like Dr. D, I hope that the missing piece from when the Ghostbusters throw down with Gozer is included. Getting to listen to the score is a real treat, it is a shame that Elmer Bernstein did not get a Oscar nomination for best original score. I am very happy that many fellow Ghostheads can enjoy hearing the score now, since the 2006 pressing sold so quickly. Also I really hope that some point in the near future, the Ghostbusters II score can be released. I have wanted to own a copy of it for a long time.

It's a reasonable safe bet it will be, but if for whatever reason it isn't available in the U.S., it should be possible for American customers to buy it from Amazon.ca.

It seems to be fairly common that score cues and segments will be moved around, and even shortened as the film editing takes place. There's a couple of cues on the first live action Transformers where this is the case, same with Independence Day, the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie, and Titanic, to name a few. I believe all the elements of the track are present on the Sarabande release, but an enterprising fan would have to employ a bit of Audacity work to assemble it in the configuration we're most familiar with. :-|

Amazon Canada listing page changed now unable to pre-order.
I’ve noticed this weird thing with Amazon last the last few months. Every so often a week or so after a new pre-order page goes up the purchase button disappears until a couple weeks before release date. Frustrating!

I'm really tempted to double dip.

No preorder yet? Well, it's only midweek. Maybe Sony/Ghost Corps is issuing a press release?

For what it’s worth, Best Buy also has a pre-order listing, albeit as of this typing without the stock images, for the vinyl here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ghostbuste ... d=34630038

I couldn’t find a listing for the CD, but I prefer vinyl just because I’m more of a vinyl guy, and I prefer Best Buy because of Best Buy Rewards.

I do wonder for us that pre-ordered the vinyl if Sony will include a digital download coupon with that purchase. Most of the new vinyl releases (new or re-issue) I have do include the download code. Crossing my fingers...

Not sure when Mistake comes from, possibly unused?
Woah, yeah... It's got touches of the more supernatural theremin segments, like the portion during the "Columbia Pictures" card... But... Perhaps a bit more experimental? Building up to something that'd be used in a final cue rather than what would be put into the film itself...

Yeah could be a demo? I had hoped it might of been the unreleased parts of the film versions that use theremin edited into one track, people over at the FSM board have suggested it could come before The Protection Grid cue, as it lines up with the scene apparently.
