Working on the basis that Ecto-1A's chassis and bodywork are now one of the two Wrecto-1s (likely the one featuring 1A's fender by elimination), I believe all the visible rust is cosmetic. Ecto-1A's paintwork was in such a sorry state when her restoration was abandoned (chunks pulled off with the decal removal, and from the various scrapes, dents and bangs she'd had over the years):

I'm certain they scrubbed her down to the base metal, pounded the panels back into shape, primed her up and gave her a new white-and-red coat, which they subsequently aged and dirtied.
Agreed. That one is probably the stunt car while they had one in better condition for the ‘hero’ car. It’s not like 1959 Miller Meteor’s are all over the place, after all. Why not use one you(Sony) already have in the fleet?

I’m glad they put LS engines in them, parts are plentiful. Plus they make great power and torque in a small, light package.

Yeah, I don't get why they needed to have *two* cars for this movie. What I really want to know is more about the 1-A parts. I'm surprised, to say the least, that they're actually being kept somewhere. What's the point of keeping 30 year old movie props that you let deteriorate anyway? If there's some larger plan, then I'm all for it. Although it's unlikely that 1-A will actually be restored to 1-A, it *should* be.

Ecto-1A might've actually been the better condition of the two, someone shared this video (Link) months back showing the patina car that was bought for the production, and you can see the car is riddled with rust to the point it's more rust than metal.

(Photos from the seller's post for comparison):

Agreed, it allows Wrecto-1 to pull the sort of moves the first two movies sorta portrayed, and the cartoon established further.

Having two cars allows for them to film more footage of the car driving around "Summerville" in a fraction of the time, the same approach was taken when they were filming Answer The Call. Theoretically one car can also be kitted out with special features that the other one doesn't have... Case in point, one of the two Wrectomobiles likely doesn't have an ejecting gunner seat.

Gunner seat, Hydraulic Emergency Brake, Roll cage, 5 point seat belt, you know.... everything an over-powered 3 ton car needs. :) lol

I still wonder if the footage use in the film was shot on the soundstage because of how defuse the light is, and how hard raytraced the shadows are as the sun sets past Columbus Circle in the footage we see in the trailer, suggesting that was truly on location.

And a cantankerous one at that!

Director Ivan Reitman and company closed down half of Manhattan to shoot the arrival of the Ghostbuster’s iconic ECTO-1 vehicle being escorted by the National Guard. A traffic backup occurred that reached all the way down to Union Square! That’s over fifty blocks of honking misery. While on break at 65th and Central Park West, Actor/Writers Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis noticed a rather disgruntled looking resident perusing the debris of the set which included a crack in the street, a melted marshmallow giant, police cars, soldiers and a boisterous crowd.

Due to the elaborate set up, he could not return to his apartment building. Aykroyd, a huge fan of science fiction, recognized the man as the illustrious writer Issac Asimov. Ramis wisely held his ground while Aykroyd, spirited with awe for the literary great, advanced happily towards his hero, “Mr. Asimov! Dan Aykroyd, we’re making the Ghostbusters. I’m such a huge fan!” Asimov was not impressed an inch, “So you are responsible for this mess. Disgusting!” Ramis later said that “Danny was just heartbroken.”

Hmm, with the new info, plus what we already know, I wonder if this film will utilise the controversial fracking process as part of the basis of the story.
Well, they didn't put fracking in the story but it did get a shout out in trailer. I guess they read your mind.

In the trailer when he says "It has a gunner seat?!" does it look like to anyone else for a split second he is wearing the Ecto Goggles when you freeze it? It looks like when the doors swing open he is leaning over the front seat and has them on. I know he was wearing them in the German trailer but was just curious if anyone thought he was wearing them in that scene as well. It's only for a tiny split second though. I just had to keep freezing it to try and determine if it was or wasn't but it looks like he is wearing them to me.

Hmmm.... Production photos showed him wearing them in the Ecto... I think we have six frames to work with....

I expect one end of march as March 23, 2020 is San Diego Comic-Con. A lot of films do trailers then depending on the property. Has Ghostbusters have been carrying on with comics for a few years I can easily see them bringing that there.

SD Comic Con's in July (I attend every year) so its unlikely they'll have something (maybe some generic swag giveaway in Hall H) but I'd put my money on Anaheim Wondercon since its in Spring.
