I cant seem to find much on this and i'm not sure if its been spoken about much in the forums... but here it goes!!

in the end scene against gozer just after ray gets that immortal question are you a god.. they approach and go up the steps, they pull out their neutrona wands and the bit bill murray says "make em hard" they twist the grip back and fourth for the wand tip to pop out... has this ever been spoken about or added to anybody's proton pack?!

Yes, a lot of folk include this on their pack builds. There's been some debate about whether this was as a result of a broken wand, or an integral part of the design. I think it was the latter myself.

That's interesting to hear! personally i always thought that small bit was missed (not really talked about) but to hear its being integrated to pack builds is pretty cool, i need to find videos of people using this!

I pretty sure at some point I’ve seen video on where someone had their hands on a hero wand claiming there is no twist mechanism . Seems like it would be over the top for them to engineer that.

The twist and pop are two entirely separate mechanisms.

The 'pop mechanism' is activated by the green lever on the neutrona wand,

You can see Ray use it in the Sedgewick Hotel when he gets out of the elevator.

The 'Twist grip' is done by having a horizontal channel cut in a tube that goes inside the front handle, allowing the front handle to Twist.

You can mimic the Twist pop by combining the two actions.

Some people have made Twist pop mechs. But I would safely say the majority of people use the green lever mechanism.

And they emphasise the green lever mechanism in Afterlife when Phoebe uses it and says "safety's off"
