Hi all,

Someone suggested using a power bank for my prorton pack. It's works ok, but times out after about 1 minute. Anyone encounter the same problem? If so, how did you solve it? Should I just find an alternative power source? Thanks

Lots of missing details here, not sure what your pack is or what electronics are in it.

But if you mean your USB powerbank is switching off after a minute, that's definitely something I've experienced. It's because most powerbanks switch off when less than 50mA of current are being drawn, because it assumes that this means your phone has finished charging.

There's only really two options here. Either find a new powerbank which doesn't have this limitation (that's going to be a challenge, this is a pretty standard feature), or find a way to use more power so it stays awake. For example, adding more LEDs, or maybe a high value resistor somewhere. Without knowing more about your setup it's hard to know what to recommend though.

Edit: I wonder if something like this might solve the problem for you?

The downside of using more power to keep the powerbank awake is that you drain the battery for no reason, but this seems to only "spike" the current draw every now and again on a timer. So that would prevent a lot of unnecessary power wastage.

There may be alternative options but this one has good reviews and the price isn't too unreasonable. I may have to grab one for myself, earlier this month I was trying to test a wireless trap pedal and I had to keep running across the room to wake up the powerbank

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, It's just a simple USB powerbank (looks like a 4 inch tube - battery). I think you're right and I just read somewhere that you can switch to the C-type to C-type cable if your power bank has a C type output- which mines does (for lower amperage usage). So I going to buy a C to C cable and test it. I'll definitely look into the link you sent me. Thanks again.

Update: I ordered on August 20th and they were delivered here in Australia on August 28th, that's eight days from the UK to Australia.

Tested by plugging in a low power USB device to the powerbank directly, it switched off after 30 seconds. Added the keep-alive module and it stayed active for 10 minutes (and counting). Very happy, wish I'd bought more than two!
