OK so I was watching Frozen Empire the other day and I came across this scene where the proton packs are being placed in to a steel mesh locker and on the sides are these electrical junction boxes that are shown as proton charging stations that connect directly to the cyclotron. So I want to try and build 2 of them for own packs.
Image

The hooks are easy enough, a 2x4 and some steel j-hooks with some hex cap bolts is all I'd need for that but I need to try and identify the base junction boxes and other hardware that are on the box itself. I've seen only one fan made box that matches, but why buy one when I'd rather build it myself. But first I need to track down the real world parts So I come to you the commu ity to see if we can ID those parts

I think this has been discussed on the Spengler's workbench facebook group, along with ID'ing some parts that are available from RS components here in the UK

Man... Where was that when I made mine? Hah.

I managed to find somethings though.

For the small heatsink, I found; SPREADFAST Heatsink, 1/4 Brick DC/DC Converter, 58 x 37 x 11mm
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/heatsinks/1846733

For the red switch; https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00TXNJ2 ... asin_title

I can't confirm if these are 100% screen accurate, but from your picture, pretty close.

Fortunately a gentleman named Martin Bryce from StarForgedProps provided me a parts list for his build pictured above so now it's all about tracking down these parts.

IP66 Eris Adaptable Box, 190mm x 145mm x 70mm

Iluminated Red Toggle: Halfords Mini Flick Switch On/Off Illuminated Red (HEF591)

Large Heatsink: SPREADFAST Heatsink, 1/2 Brick DC/DC Converter, 61 x 57.9 x 17.3mm

Small Heatsink: SPREADFAST Heatsink, 1/4 Brick DC/DC Converter, 58 x 37 x 11mm

Red Rocker Switch: RS PRO SPST, On-Off Rocker Switch Panel

Orange Light: Apem Orange Panel Mount Indicator, 12V dc, 10mm Mounting Hole Size, Lead Wires Termination

Antenna: RF Solutions ANT-2WHIP2RA-SMA Stubby WiFi Antenna with SMA Connector, WiFi

Many thanks to Martin for this information, so I'll like his build on his etsy store as a thank you for those who either want to buy one or be dumb like me and build one

The red rocker switch is this specific one, https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/rocker-switches/0419750

I ID'd that one first, as it's got a different orientation of the 1 on the switch than any others avaliable.

I disagree with Martin on the orange light, I believe whatever they used was recessed, rather than panel mounted. Unfortunately we're very light on good reference photos though.

I'll admit I did smile when we found all these parts are only available in the UK, it makes a change! That said, I've shipped some of them over to two US folk now for cost price plus actual shipping cost, so happy to do the same if you're interested.

They're very easy to make, and I'm sure you could whip up some blinky lights mega easy. The big red toggle switch is a 12V switch, so I had to drill the back out to put an LED in mine, but should be easy to do it better than that. Probably costs about £50 in parts in total I reckon.

The switch seems Identical to the one I linked over on amazon, if that's the case I just used a 9 volt battery and that was plenty bright.

I greatly appreciate that. If you can give me a number, I'll consult with the treasurer (my wife) to see if it's possible.

I could offer the 3d files for the heat sinks I made up, and the box I used runs 10 mm too big, and has some large holes on the sides. Not ideal I know, but if the shipping becomes an issue. You have options.

Drop me a DM and let me know what parts you'd want, and I'll price them up and work out what shipping would be. It'll all be at cost, not after making any profit on it!

I've started work on my charging station. I've added some of the components already. So far nothing is actually live in there, i.e. the wires from the orange LED on the right are loose and theres nothing poking into those lens caps.

Image

Speaking of... Despite meticulously drawing a straight line and progressively drilling slightly larger holes bit by bit I somehow misaligned my two holes where one was noticeably higher than the other. So i made each hole slightly bigger one with more headroom and the other widened at the bottom. I then used a couple of rubber washers to disguise and i think they look alright. I don't think they look out of place.

Image

I still need to cut holes for the rectangular I/O toggle and the regular toggles at the top. I have also designed a 3D printable part for them to sit on to better match the screen appearance. At the moment I am 3d printing a rainbow dinosaur for my daughter so I'll make these next time I'm doing something in black.

I feel a little bit like I've hijacked your thread but I hope my postings are useful. I finished* my build during todays lunch break. There's a scratch under the bottom right switch which is annoying me, I slipped when using a chisel on the corners of the hole I'd cut out but hopefully its not too noticeable.

*finished phase 1 at least. There are no electronics or lighting effects yet.

I’m was in my local discount hardware store today and they had a string of multi colour fairly lights for £1. So I quickly hot glued them into place in a few areas to give a bit of interactivity. I am also going to install a power bank in there and bring a usb c cable out the side in some loom and people can plug their phones in to charge for the lols.

Toby CJ has informed me that I need to change one of those electricity warning stickers for a laser caution which I haven’t done yet. But what I did do was shove a 10,000Mah power bank inside and I’ve got a Lightning and a USB-C cable coming out of the conduits. Now I can place this on a table if my franchise is having a display and people can charge their phones using it. Just something to give a bit of interactivity at cons etc.

Is that what it is!! I was wondering, but just stuck something there because I would likely be the only one to know the problem.
Also if you are worried about screen accuracy, it appears in the Adam Savage video, the two lower light lens are clear.

However you did a great job!

I might have some clear lens caps, but I don’t know if I can be bothered to replace them at the moment as it would require faffing about removing hot glue. Also I quite like that because there’s no clear reference imagery we’ve all done something slightly different. Which Adam savage video is it in?

The red LED seems to still be red even when it's not illuminated, but it doesn't look like a red lens. Hard to tell but the green one might be similar.

Image

So it's probably clear lenses over coloured LEDs, which doesn't look as good to me as what you have.
Image

Clear lenses are great for dual-colour LEDs like on a battery charger (red=charging, green=charged) but as far as I can tell they used single-colour LEDs on the prop. If I ever build one I'll go with coloured lenses too.

We had zero joy trying to find out who actually made these. It definitely wasn't the prop team, a set dressing guy we made contact with didn't know who did them either, and nor did Luke Whitelock the FE set designer, so we couldn't get better photos or any other detail on them annoyingly.

That's cool to know though. It was possibly made by someone who doesn't give a toss about Ghostbusters and has no clue about the fandom or anything they just built something after being given a basic specification and it was shoved on the walls. They'll never see these posts or our cries for help identifying parts.

Alternatively, could they have been supplied by Electroprops as just a random box with flashy lights that doesn't really do anything other than look decorative? We know they supplied other items in the lab. It's not listed on their website but thats not to say they didn't make it https://www.electroprops.co.uk/props-5.html

Wonder if anyone snagged photos of it. Film crew, prop team, set director, or even like Savage or other podcasters who toured the sets.
Would seem like a thing that someone would take pictures of.
