Hi everyone! I’m new here and just beginning my cosplay adventure as a Ghostbuster. I’m planning to build a foam proton pack and modify various other items, like the ecto-goggles. I've also bought a 1989 Kenner Ghost Trap, which I plan to modify with lights and some smoke effects, thanks to a small-sized smoke machine.

I’m a member of the 501st Star Wars cosplaying group (TIE Fighter detachment), so I know that screen accuracy is everything there and sometimes I find the pressure in being completely screen accurate a little overwhelming. I’d like to be screen-accurate with my proton pack, but I’m very tempted to add my own touches with the ecto-googles and ghost trap. Do many Ghostbusters fans deviate from screen accuracy?

I know the ghost trap usually has yellow chaser LEDs, but I’m considering green chaser LEDs because I think they’d look cool against the black. I’m looking forward to sharing my modifications here on the forum and learning from all the amazing prop builders and modifiers. I'd be really pleased if anyone could share their advice or perhaps explain some of their own modifications away from screen accurate models. Thanks! :-D

The general consensus around these parts is, you do you. Ghostbusters in general is meant to be franchise based, so there's going to be variation and user customization to gear and uniforms.

While I appreciate the 501st for is screen accuracy, I much prefer the open-mindedness of the GB community. But hey, that's just my little ol' opinion.

For reference, my current main uniform is a Sage Green flightsuit with custom gb1/gb2 hybrid nametags. I also have the grey/tan GB1, and Charcoal GB2 for Screen accuracy, but prefer the personalised option.

Welcome aboard Chumpi. As stated, this group is more accepting of deviation in what people wear as a uniform or gear than some other groups.

Personally, as long as your comfortable and you aren't hurting anyone change what you want on your gear.

Have fun

Hi Chumpi!

One of the great things about the GB fandom is the open-mindedness when it comes to uniforms and gear. Definitely check out the equipment subforums here and take a look at what people have done. Two-piece uniforms, totally custom gear, etc. Heck, just look at what people have done with their Haslab packs. Many of the modifications done are not "screen-accurate," but are unbelievably awesome. Instead of trying to replicate an on-screen pack, some people have made the packs their own, which is just fantastic.

In a nutshell, make your gear yours, and have a blast doing it!

Hey, there!
Welcome aboard! Like others have mentioned, have fun and make modifications that you're comfortable with.
I live in south Florida and most of the year it's HOT!

So, I have several flightsuits, made from Nomex, but I do have two, tan cotton-poly flightsuits for when it does get cooler.
I also have made a two piece suit, one red and black and one all tan. I just bought two inexpensive flight style jackets on Amazon and use simple cargo pants, and I always use Velcro for my name tapes and no-ghost patches on all my suits, because they're expensive!

Just have fun and please feel free to post pics in the UNIFORM thread when you're able to. I like seeing how creative the GB fandom can be whenever it comes to making your gear and uniforms your own. :)

Nobody in the ghostbusting community cares (or at least should care) about how screen accurate your costume and gear is. Look at some of the behind the scenes photos from the movies and you'll see broken stuff, foam builds, gnarly wood, and belt gizmos made from flaps of leather & sharpies. Accuracy is great but anyone who is insulting about it probably isn't welcome in the community.

I made a proton pack out of rubbish. Its still a proton pack. Best of luck to you.
