For the various Ghostbusters Cartoon series. Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters and more!

One thing I don’t see get commented here too much is how effective the musics in Extreme Ghostbusters is. It’s really good. There’s a few hints of Elmer’s score here and there. The piano riff. .

I also LOVE the hard rock grungy very 90s theme. It’s really good. As a kid when I would watch this and the song would hit the part where we see the canisters getting jammed in, the needles red lining, boy did I get excited.

Unfortunately as is the case of far too many kids tv shows, I don’t think there was a score created PER episode. More likely there was a suite of cues written and the editors had to stick the music in to fit the episode. I do remember a few cues that seem to be specific to episodes. The Pied Piper Ghost. He had a very eerie theme. I think the leprechaun episode also had specific cues I think. Does anyone know if I’m incorrect here?

You're correct that XGB's score was largely a suite of cues, like RGB's was. You're also correct about the Pied Piper and the Leprechaun having distinct cues compared to the rest of the series (though the Piper's pipe tune did reappear at the start of Dry Spell).

Ooh ok thanks for the confirmation.

What do u think of the music? Do you like the rock version of the theme song?

Real Ghostbusters had some decent music too but I was never much of a fan of when they’d have actual songs on for the montages.

I am guessing you learned about that on Jim Cummings ‘ podcast? I heard that and forgot about it. I finally got the DVD set during most recent discount. I watched show in original run. Other than a few rewatches of the finale 2 parter I had not seen most in decades. Knowing it now, it’s so obviously Jim Cummings singing! I knew of him and his voice credits in 1997 but would have made the connection.

Also really prominent now is Elmer Bernstein’s piano riff! So cool. Not sure if I would have picked up in that from low quality of old local broadcast.

I don't recall Bernstein's score appearing in Extreme Ghostbusters... Do you have an example?

The only thing I can recall even sounding a bit like it were maybe a cue or two from the score in the Pied Piper episode, and I think that was more a coincidence than deliberate intention.

I am still on the first disc. Have not gotten to Piped Piper episode yet. It’s for sure in the first 2 or 3 episodes. Maybe beyond that too. It’s a brief part of the musical tapestry.

It reminds me of the 1988 Ruby Spears Superman cartoon. They actual had the rights to John Williams Superman theme. But it was limited to the opening credits and only the start of the credits. After that and in the actual episodes the show’s composer had to come up with new material. But in an interview for a box set of all the 80s Superman music, the composer said he deliberately was writing new music that evoked the feel of John Williams.
