Following a few teases/leaks in the past week or so, toy company Hasbro has revealed that it's next offering in the Ghostbusters Kenner Classics range will be a re-release of the Ecto-Glow Hero figures, as reported by Toy News International.

Originally released in 1991, the Ecto-Glow Heroes represented the final run of Real Ghostbusters figures from the original Kenner run, and featured the four Ghostbusters and Louis Tully in special glow-in-the-dark uniforms (including glowing mask accessories of their own heads), packaged with glowing ghosts and proton packs.

The 2025 versions of the Ecto-Glow Heroes (minus Louis) are currently set to be an exclusive collectable at this year's San Diego Comic Con.

Final renders and further details, such as the retail price are expected to be released in the near future, however for comparison, the first wave of Kenner Classics figures retailed for around $14.99 each.

Are SDCC exclusives usually fairly accessible?
Back when Diamond Select released the ghost clone variants of the RGB figures, a friend was able to pick up a set and then ship them across the Atlantic to me. That's probably your best chance to get these at a reasonable price.

Woo-hoo! This is awesome!!!

woo-hoo. This sucks.

I personally didn't even know they existed until I saw a guy at a comic show selling them for a big markup, around 1993 or so. I bought his Egon and Venkman, but he didn't come to the next show and I could never get Winston and Ray (or even Louis) back in the day.

Ah well, guess I can't complain too much about something I never had anyway, right?

Well, the original Kenner Fright Features had a Janine and the Hasbro repop didn't, so it's sadly consistent.

They've since announced that the figures will be released in a 4 pack as well as announced a new Ecto-Glow Ecto-1, which are the SDCC exclusives. They've also teased an Ecto-Glow Slimer and Stay Puft, including Ecto-Glow Louis Tully and the unreleased Ecto-Glow Copter. Here's hoping that they'll be available on Hasbro Pulse either during or shortly after. I'm not a fan of stuff like this being exclusives because it immediately skyrockets in price on eBay, etc. Fingers crossed.

Yes, yesterday, the Hasbro team confirmed the Ecto-Glow Ecto-1 will be online only, probably middle of SDCC, and whatever Ecto-Glow 4 packs don't sell, they'll put it online on Hasbro Pulse.

Curious how they'll release the other Ecto-Glows. Have they ever done exclusives at NYCC?

I will admit it's pretty cool that Hasbro have taken it upon themselves to not only make the never-released Glow Copter, but to also produce in-keeping glowing toys of Ecto-1, Slimer and Stay Puft to expand the original and Classics Ecto Glow line.

They're not for me, but I'm happy for the fans who loved this line. :)

Just a pity we won't likely see Kenner-styled figures of the show's classic ghosts.

I mean it makes sense for them to reuse molds and give us something a bit different. Honestly, that's how Super 7 gets to sleep at night. The Ecto Glow copter is the standout for me. I never would've thought that would've been a thing. I'd be hopeful to wish for Hasbro to produce Egon's Lab, but I won't cross my fingers on that one (I will say that I certainly don't care about the garbage/firetruck with the claw that never made it past the prototype stages). I am only getting the line as a completist (I have the full original Ecto Glow wave) and to support the retro line. I'm on the fence about the rooftop figures. They're just new head sculpts.

What has the world come to when I come to gbfans.com and nobody is really talking about these, not here and not in the Collectibles forum?

I'm anxiously waiting to find out how the supposed post-con online release of the Heroes pack is going to go down now that SDCC is over. I want to know when, and how many are available, so I can be ready to pull the trigger. No news about that at all during the entire con, when IMO this is the biggest merchandising thing going on this year for the entire franchise. Apparently I'm actually one of just 5 people who cares about this, based on google results for the topic?

(Meanwhile we watch influencers take home stacks of 10 sets, at least half of which were probably given to them for free...)

I'm about done with collecting plastic myself, but to me these are a necessary and perfect bookend to my GB collection.

I've already answered that here but I will go a step further and post a screenshot of the reply I got from Hasbro Pulse.

August 1st if there is remaining stock available. There's been no word if these sold out at the convention or not but one would assume that they have not. They are also $79.99 for the 4-pack. That's $20 each and a $5 increase for each figure compared to the Fright Features line. That's probably all in part due to them being cast in GITD plastic.

With that said, Hasbro has started adding some of their SDCC Exclusives to their site with the 'Coming Soon' tagline. So far the Ecto-Glow 4 figure pack has not shown up yet. I'd say keep checking the site every day before the 1st to see if they get added or not?
#5005728
Thanks for that info. I have not seen the August 1st date anywhere I had checked (including here) so I am grateful to at least have that to put on the calendar. I *would* like to see these supposed additional details posted sooner than later, including some sense of what the odds are we might have a chance at snagging one.

I'm not bothered by the pricing, that seems fair in today's economy and given they have additional special packaging as well. Totally worth it, but only for Hasbro's price not for scalping prices.

We seem to be experiencing something perhaps unprecedented here - it seems this entire sub-line is going to be released as difficult to procure con-exclusives. It's annoying they are taking that track with something everyone already has frustration over (the OG Ecto Glow already being difficult to procure in the first place). I also can see why though - I don't think either of the other Kenner repro efforts sold very well. And I will never understand why that is...they are so much more fun and toyetic than honestly any other GB toy made since, IMO.
