Past work includes: Glitch Techs, Rise of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur
I had no idea Flying Bark was responsible for What If...?, Monkey Kid, or the 100% Wolf series... That gives me some confidence, however I really hope the writing team isn't the same crew as the ones who worked on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as what I've seen of that show was extremely cringe.

As Zeta noted though, one of the animation company's strengths is dynamic/action animated sequences.
Off topic for a hot second, but yeah, season 1 of Rise was rough with some gems in there, but season 2 was really good with some great writing and some hilarious jokes (again, humor is subjective). I will say to check out the movie as there's a HUGE tonal shift from the show and is REALLY good with some, at times, hard to look at body horror (no, seriously)

So... Ghostbusters makes its way to Magic the Gathering as playable cards, but Magic The Gathering is just now getting an animated series? WTF, that seems kind of messed up since Yugioh has been around just as long with several many animated series. Crap, I thought we'd been waiting a long time!

At Licensing Expo 2025, Jamie Stevens, EVP of Worldwide Consumer Products at Sony Pictures Entertainment said the following, "We’re doubling down on this dynamic medium with new projects like an animated Ghostbusters series and a series spinoff of ‘Hotel Transylvania’ entitled ‘Motel Transylvania.’ We’re excited to introduce fans of all ages and interests to these fresh stories and the unforgettable experiences they are sure to deliver."

Well, here's hoping Ghostbusters comes up during today's Tudum event.
https://www.netflix.com/tudum/features/ ... live-event

Then on GB Day, Jason Reitman will be in NY. Maybe the show will get a mention.

Also noticed Netflix Animation will be at the Annecy Festival with panels on June 10 and 12. Maybe then, too, but that is more of an industry only event so details tend to be scant.

Which is superb to hear (I assume they used Seasons 1 and 2 as their inspiration). Well animated, with dark stories, but interjected with banter and a little humour to have a candle of light and hope.

As optimistic as that sounds, I really think they'll be just going with a "monster of the week" gimmick. We'll see I suppose.

Honestly my thoughts for the inspiration being taken is the look of the show- the characters won't resemble the actors and have weird hair styles.

Variety's summary from a Netflix Animatoin panel at Annecy Festival
https://variety.com/2025/tv/global/mine ... 236429388/
Dominique Bazay presented a new take on “Ghostbusters,” developed with Sony Pictures Animation. “This is ‘Ghostbusters’ like you’ve never seen it,” she said. “We’re working with Flying Bark in Sydney and a brand new team in Madrid.” After sharing some lush concept art of a gritty-looking New York City, she explained, “Our goal is never photorealism but something tactile and tangible.”

It does sound like it could be Ecto Force or something like that and take place in the future.

Sonic Prime concept art leaked and matched up quite close to final show.

I wouldn't make that assumption, partly because I believe the Netflix series has pretty much started from scratch, rather than use the bones of Ecto Force for its foundation, and because there's just so little information to form a conclusion on.

Bazay's comment about it being a new take on Ghostbusters, one that hasn't been seen before is intriguing... I hope it isn't a similar concept as the cancelled ghost-as-Ghostbusters movie from a while back, as personally I didn't find that remotely interesting... But we'll see.

The talk of a gritty New York conjures visions of a depiction like some of the darker/more mature Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series...

Give them 6-12 months, if they're only showing off concept art at Annecy then they don't have any animated material to make a trailer yet. :whatever:

I'm a tad concerned about this project. It just seems like the window to release a Ghostbusters cartoon was shortly after the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, or maybe Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. But to have it come out years after these films were released just seems too late to me. Maybe I'm wrong and it will be a big hit.

Yeah does feel like the ideal time to launch would be… asap if not already.

There was 27 months between the original Ghostbusters movie and Real Ghostbusters.

So we’d be looking at June ‘26 given a similar timeframe from Frozen Empire. But you have to think this has been bubbling away since Afterlife to some degree… then again better let them cook than rush it.

A bit more description from the panel
https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/n ... howrunner/
The series is in production.

A pre-recorded message from the series' executive producer and showrunner Ben Hibon was played:
“Ghostbusters has always been a really surprising blend of horror, comedy, sci-fi and fantasy.

We want to keep the character and the story totally grounded in a time and place that felt real. It has grit, it has texture, it has vibrancy. The goal is never photorealism. The way we approach light, the volume of light and the softness and the coloration and the temperature of light is really what brings very highly stylized characters or simplified environments or basically textures into a realm that feels very tactile and tangible.

My mission is unbound by reality. That itself allows us to go much broader, in some ways much bigger.

We’re able to be very bold and very impactful and very striking, distorting motion, blend with frame rates, ghost designs. We will be able to push the envelope, really elevate content and really surprise audiences.”

Then concept art included: "We saw from the pictures that the series appears to be following four young protagonists (they were standing silhouetted with their backs facing towards the “camera” on a hill), with other snaps set indoors and outdoors in New York City, focusing on our heroes and monsters. One particular picture had one of the protagonists wading through a New York interior filled with boxes, with a proton pack on their back glowing. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse is clearing the blueprint for the animation style, which makes sense given the studio. "
