It's a bloody shame, but companies like DiC and the BBC just had no way of knowing that there'd be demand to rewatch these shows years/decades after their broadcast, or that there would be superior options for clearer picture quality than the 1980s and the 1960s had available. :(

If only we had a time machine.
Agreed, what a pity. I was hoping against all hope they would be sitting in some salt mine like the GB1 reels Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan utilized for Afterlife and Frozen Empire but some companies just weren't adamant enough about archiving original material back then. Hope some one did some dumpster diving back then.

I’m confident AI upscaling will get to the stage we can drastically improve the quality of Time Life rips - whether done and sold through official channels or fan-led.

I’d still like to do a widescreen 4K remake of the intro at least but realistically beyond my time capacity - and I didn’t wanna put the time in and have AI step in and steal the thunder.

I reached out to James Eatock a couple of years ago and he was very positive about the upscale potential based on the recent He-Man release. In a subsequent interview he alluded to my posts on this forum and that I’d taken this to mean he was working on an upscale… this was not the case, I didn’t suggest a set was in the works, I just think knowing the tech exists and is reliable means it’s only a matter of time until someone does this.

The fan efforts for upscaling RGB episodes are better than what we have now. It would be a bit disappointing to see them released again with no upscaling at all. Although, if they did new work on them now, that would probably be the versions available for years to come. So, there is an argument to be made for allowing the tech to advance further before upscaling.

The EGB set makes me a bit nervous. If that is the level of quality control they have, then maybe I shouldn't have any expectations. If nothing else, having them on less discs would be a plus (assuming it would be an SD blu-ray release.)

Speaking as an obnoxious videophile... I worked on 4-5 RGB episodes a couple of years ago trying to come up with a method for community fan remastering. This would be a fairly 'simple' remaster based purely on presets that the more tech savvy users could help render at home. (Computing power/times is the reason I can't just do the whole show)

Really if you had access to the broadcast files the quality of the raw upscale should be significantly better, and a small team of artists can go in and fix some of the ringing/haloing and the AI boogers by hand. Sony could almost make it look like a real HD film scan if they put a little money into it.
