I don't want to be pessimistic.

If we see any stills or teases, rest assured it'll be 1-2 years from that date before it could be released.

Plus in 2022, I think Gil Kenan might have been misunderstood when he said, “Between gaming, comics, television, and movies, we are going to tell the untold history of Ghostbusters while reaching into the future with characters you haven’t met from places you haven’t gone.” Thinking "future" was this show but another quote of Gil's lines up, "We’re not done. We’re back in animated television! @SonyAnimation is teaming up with @Netflix to create the next generation of Ghostbusters. This series will navigate an unexplored era of the Ghostbusters Canon."

If so, that begs the question of why would the city need a new team if there were little to no ghosts? Perhaps they are what is tied to Peck's campaign. Maybe as part of his bid to get elected, he somehow fakes a supernatural threat, and hires some "fake" GB-types, but then a real threat emerges. Or, maybe it's someone who was told by Egon that their ghost problem didn't matter, and they have to deal with it themselves. Ernie did say recently that he was reprising his role as the owner of the GBs, so maybe this will be told in flashback Citizen Ghost-style.Very intriguing if it's about the last years of the original team. Peck getting into politics in the 90s was unexpected. Figured 00s.
It's likely none of these, lol. But speculation is part of the fun. I'm feeling better about this new series now.

Figured 00s.I'm glad they're including his first run for Mayor. It makes that turn in Frozen Empire seem less random now. Though, it does make me wonder when he actually became Mayor in this universe. I figured it was some time around the events of Back in Town, since we see a flyer for his campaign. But could that possibly have been a re-election campaign now?

The more I think about it, the show would almost have to take place before the original team officially shut down. Otherwise, it wouldn't really fit the narrative about there not be ghosts in 30 years. If it is does include the original crew, the question of Murray's participation arises. It's a given they will have to recast Egon, unless this takes place after he's already taken off to Summerville. But I'd like the show to flesh out the events that led up to that moment.

So maybe a group that’s involved in the overall plot that spans the entire show before/after they go out of business. Because obviously they didn’t keep ghostbusting professionally.Or they could be (re)canonizing the hiring of rookies in the 90s to help with the workload.
Ya I hope they elaborate on the Ray and Egon disagreement.
mrmichaelt wrote: ↑March 6th, 2026, 9:44 pmYa that could work. Then they just got laid off once whatever is they stopped in this show and went back their normal lives.WCat2000 wrote: ↑March 6th, 2026, 9:23 pm Love that it’s about filling in what happened before Afterlife but the concept art was said to show a new younger team. Agreed.

Chicken, He Clucked wrote:I thought the latest rumour from that Schneider guy was the cartoon was based on the four guys in the early 90’s?The confusion lies with one description from Annecy Festival in June 2025 of concept art showing, "four young protagonists (they were standing silhouetted with their backs facing towards the “camera” on a hill), with other snaps set indoors and outdoors in New York City, focusing on our heroes and monsters. One particular picture had one of the protagonists wading through a New York interior filled with boxes, with a proton pack on their back glowing. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse is clearing the blueprint for the animation style, which makes sense given the studio" and hit-or-miss scooper Jeff Sneider saying this past March that the show set in the 1990s and is tied to Walter Peck's initial run for mayor. Sneider said nothing about the original Ghostbusters. John Rocha was confused the show was live action and asked if they're de-aging the original cast then Sneider reiterated it's animated. He didn't really confirm anything about the original Ghostbusters. So if those Ghostbusters seen in the concept art are just stylized 3D animation versions of the originals or new characters is unclear.
I hope the art style is more Spiderverse than Stranger Things 85.
