For the various Ghostbusters Cartoon series. Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters and more!

Yeah, as much as I love the King of the Hill that style doesn't fit the franchise. At least in my opinion. I'll always have that nagging thought when the character's would speak: The proton Beams run off propane, and propan accessories." Lol, that syle shouldn't be the hill we die on.

I'm open to new art styles.

I'm very partial to Dan's work from IDW. I can never give that creative team enough credit.

If there is a cartoon & its OG's as leads (unlikely) they should X-Men 97 it, pull Claremont's best stories & Lee's - pull Burkham's best stories & Dan's art.

The biggest bummer about IDW not having the IP anymore is not seeing Dan and Erik playing in that world anymore. However I am very grateful that they had the run they did. :):):)

I am curious if there will be anymore stories involving the original crew. In animation it is completely possible to revisit the OG characters. The question would be who would you cast to do those characters justice? They did it with The Real Ghostbusters so they could probably capture that magic again with the right cast. :):):)

3/19/24: Nope. If we're fortunate, it will be mentioned on Ghostbusters Day in June.

edit 3/21/24: In an interview with Alex Zane at the 23:42-24:18 mark, Gil Kenan gave an update (note the rest of the interview are spoilers for Frozen Empire):

"I just watched an entire presentation for the show. I've seen the sets, the environments and I saw saw my first glimpse at a world of supernatural characters as realized by our brilliant creative team and so all I can say is the work is being done as we speak. It's in what we call full development. Scripts are being written. Art is being created and it's a great time to be a Ghosbuster."

I'll believe it when I see it as I said earlier, however...I think if they did something similar to Troll Hunters, or the Voltron anime it could work. Being Netflix Dreamworks may have already gotten the green light to this. I hope that's the case.

It might work best going with CG art.
i like me my anime but i agree, it's never worked well with north american shows/movies.

anyone see x-men 97 yet? the animation in that is FANTASTIC

It's kind of funny, the only style of "anime" I generally am somewhat ok with is the more North American-style.

I would be ABSOLUTELY on board for an X-Men 97 style.

Really hoping this is something awesome. I can't stand new cartoons these days, the art is just appalling and lazy. Shows that I was looking forward to and being let down were Big Hero Six, the new Spider-Man, Duck Tales, TMNT, they just have that same awful look.

I won't hold by breath, but I will set my expectations low.
#4995998
I'd consider the new Ducktales largely an improvement on the original, and it was pretty entertaining. The Big Hero 6 TV series for the most part was pretty decent (apart from the final season, where it really lost steam)... I would've loved a sequel to the movie, but evidently that wasn't on the cards.

I have to admit -- just personal taste, not a criticism of them as I know they are beloved -- but I wasn't that into the look of the IDW comics, although I did buy a hardback at one point from a Half-Price Books I still need to read all the way through.

My ideal look for the movie is something in the broad neighborhood of Spider-Verse and TMNT: Mutant Mayhem. Although they're often lumped together, when you get down to it they don't look much alike, but what they do both do is carve out a unique and original look that fits a certain vibe, and I think a Ghostbusters movie with a hip, fresh look to it could be really fun.

Absolutely loved the Ducktails reboot. It's a shame they ended it the way they did. Tenant (who voiced Scrooge) would make a decent ghost or, a Peck like figure. I think he's a fan of the franchise or the writers were during his original run. Someone get Jason on the phone and tell him want Tennant in the Empire sequel. I could seriously see him as a Buster, or a villain.

Kind of vague isn't it?

A brand new GHOSTBUSTERS animated series is on the way!
@JasonReitman
and
@gilkenan
, the minds behind Ghostbusters: Afterlife, will be leading the project which will debut on Netflix, in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation. #GeekedWeek

Proof of life would have been nice though.

I don't know about you, but I'd love to see some form of media involving Tobin other than Spirits Unleashed, a show about him travelling around the world and slowly finishing his spirit guide would be cool, maybe each episode could end with him writing a section of the book. The future concept seems cool, but there's so much more they could do with Tobin, he's mentioned many times yet we've never really seen him other than in games and comics, very unlikely to happen, but it's something I'm curious about.

Tristan Jones tried when he was with IDW I believe. That back up Tobin story got excited back in the 2010s. Tobin is definitely another great candidate for a spin-off series in some medium.

I know what u mean. While I disagree about not liking those new shows on a writing & acting the level, the realm of TV animation has mostly become that Teen Titans Go look. There’s a computer program all these shows use (Toon Boom?) and that’s why a lot of these shows look the way they do.

Has anyone seen the show Bluey? Terrific, wonderful show. But that’s the style most shows have where the animation is generally pretty awful. But the writing & characters are so good u forgive a lot.

Some shows put the money in. The new X-Men ‘97 series, the new anime styled Superman show.

Gone are the days of Animaniacs, Pinky & The Brain, Recess, Hey Arnold, Batman The Animated Series, Gargoyles. I could geek out about how computers have made animation too perfect & clean yet as a positive also less expensive & more accessible but I don’t wanna to more off topic than I already have

Good news is Netflix has some pretty great animated series, from an animation stand point.

This will turn out great. Ghostbusters & animation belong together. It’s well overdue.

Keep in mind it's an Australian taxpayer (Government) funded cartoon for very young children, so even as successful as it is they probably won't be throwing more money at the animation budget anytime soon (not sure if Disney's recent involvement would change that though).

Final Space and Lower Decks are two animated series I really like aesthetically as well as for the characters and stories. But they're both aimed at an adult demographic rather than children or teens. I'm not sure if the new GB series is aimed at children, or at people who were children in the 80s. Guess we'll find out soon enough!
#4998425
As much as I love Rick and Morty and Lower Decks I think an x-men 97 animation style, (new) Voltron, or even the What if style would be a good fit.

Lol, Hell no. Thundercat's go is a no go. I'd rather sit through a Kenny G concert having my root canal drilled out. My biggest hope is I'd love to see the series hand drawn by Dan Schoening. Then again monkeys might fly out of my---

#4998460
I'd be happy with the new cartoon aiming probably for the teen crowd, though if they went for season 1-2 |Real Ghostbusters-level comedy, horror and storytelling, then I'd be cool with that.

As for animation style, anything similar to these shows would be fine with me: Voltron: Legendary Defender, What If...?, X-Men '97, Blue Eye Samurai, Mech Cadets, Scavengers Reign, Skull Island or Agent Elvis.

Same. I thought with Sony Animation tweeting about it we were going to get a small glimpse, if not maybe the logo... But as it is, the promotion of the new series was barely more than a crumb.

The title of the video from Sony with Patton & Kumail was “Ghostbusters Past Present and Future” & they covered the past & present very well. The future wasn’t mentioned at all tho. Which makes me worry that the tepid response to the latest movie has changed things. They clearly shot that video when they shot all the other promo stuff with those two, so before the movie came out(since Patton was also worried about Spoilers when the movie is already out on digital).
