I noticed a couple of the streamers like Netflix were teasing their animated projects on social media the same day. So could have just been a coincidence or some bigger teasers are coming this week for all projects.

Hate to sound like a broken record but I'll believe it when I finally see it. Lol.

It's clearly happening...they just should not have tweeted about it before GB Day because it made seem like they were gonna show something ON THAT day.

They've been dangling this hook well before 2016. Kind of skeptical at this point. Lol.

Nobody is dangling anything. Even if it is the same idea, the Ecto Force thing, it was obviously put on hold because of everything else and then the focus turned to Afterlife. There was never any official announcement like this has.
Sonic Prime was announced in 2020...the show didn't release til fall 2022.

I guess the plans pre-FE are now… on ice.
At least the animated show seems too far along to get canned.
And there’s an animated movie too, right!?

Sony talked officially about Ecto Force. It was presetended with a bunch of other projects.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movie ... er-904574/ Given we don’t have much of anything to go on Timeware’s skepticism seems sound to me. It surprises me to see some1 pushing back on “I’ll believe it when I see it”.
We all should know by now how quickly things change. Executives leave.. Projects gets canceled. There are quite a few projects that Netflix announced officially that we never saw. That animated Army of the Dead show? Then there was the Live Action Master of the Universe movie.
I feel like this new animated series is on solid ground but who knows what could happen.

Warner Brothers cancelled the
Scoob! sequel and a Wile E. Coyote movie that scored well that were about ready to go, and
Nimona was cancelled by Blue Sky Studios in the late stages of its production (fortunately Netflix stepped in to give it a new home). While those are films rather than an animated series, nothing is too far along to get cancelled.

Unfortunately, Scoob was cancelled for Velma which was a shame because I enjoyed Scoob's style of animation. That would have been a great fit for Ghostbusters.

the ultimate example of this is probably the Batgirl movie that was completely done and DC chose to just not release it.
I'm as happy as anyone else to see the teaser image from the other day and I really think animation/streaming would be a big boost to GB.

Yes it’s possible anything can get cancelled at anytime.
There’s no reason to believe this is might get cancelled. If by chance it did get cancelled that’s neither here nor there because as far as we know it’s happening.
Ecto-Force never got officially announced. It was said to be in development. This whatever it is had a formal announcement at GB Day and they just tweeted about it.

That they’re still announcing it after FE Box Office performance, and the fact it’s Sony / Netflix makes me optimistic it won’t get canned.
Also this series is different to the animated movie from “Jennifer Kluska (Hotel Transylvania: Transformania) and Chris Prynoski (Beavis and Butt-Head Do America) based on a script by Brenda Hsueh (Elemental, The Afterparty)”.
We haven’t heard about that since 2022. I’d say that’s most at risk of cancellation at this point.

No news is not bad news. They're not going to show behind-the-scenes making of stuff like the live action movies do. Animation is a much more private production and a different beast. The fact that the show was tweeted about by Sony is a positive sign, take it as that. There's no more to dissect from it. And before that Gil Kenan gave an update of what he was shown so it's well into production. We're not going to be blasted with news and photos like we did with Afterlife or Frozen Empire.
As for the movie, the last bit of news was not 2022. It was March 2023, they hired a storyboard artist so one could infer they are well into pre-production.
edit: Back on June 6, during Netflix's look at upcoming animation, the untitled series was listed in the Family Series section with a description of "Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are developing an animated series based on the beloved Ghostbusters IP, which will be debuted exclusively on Netflix. The high-end series is part of the streamer’s elevated family animation lineup, delivering irreverent supernatural comedy and thrilling visual spectacle."

I like the description for this. It's giving
Star Trek Lower Decks but
Ghostbusters.

Lower Decks but Ghostbusters sounds like a good premise. Honestly, Lower Decks but (blank) is a good pitch.

I just want some info with pictures, and concept art. Looks like they'll be focusing on humor so maybe we can get Paul Rudd and Ryan Renolds to do some voices. Or maybe Will Freidle as he's voiced Deadpool.

Don't get me wrong, it's great that we've had another update, and that it shows the project is still planned to go ahead...
But does it not take a bit of the wind out of the sails to see that it's only now been given the green light by Netflix
two years after the project was originally announced?
If the project wasn't officially green-lit by Netflix before this point, does it mean that at most, the production's only at the point of having a small selection of concept artwork, and maybe a couple of test animations for the pitch document?
timeware wrote: ↑August 12th, 2024, 2:57 pm so maybe we can get Paul Rudd and Ryan Renolds to do some voices. Or maybe Will Freidle as he's voiced Deadpool.

Why would Ryan Reynolds be involved in a Netflix Ghostbusters animated series?
Why would Will Freidle be involved just because he's voiced Deadpool in the past?

Just a suggested list of actors/voice actors that could pull off a sarcastic character if they plan on going the humor route. Why wouldn't Ryan be involved in an animated series? He's in everything these days. Hell, the Rock did Moana. If Venkman or someone like Venkman are going to be used, you'd want someone that can do sarcasm.

Yes, they are two separate projects.
Or if you mean canon-wise, too early to say. We'll see.

It's nothing to worry about . There's no hard rule for the time it takes for an animated series to be pitched and greenlit. Now that we know it is 3D animated, it takes an additional year just to create certain models. That could account for the gap of 2 years (i.e. scuplting digital assets, rigging models). Some studios can be picky and want a bible and some scripts and/or proof of concept - e.g. a short pilot made - as well as a series of pitch meetings, not just one.

Development for Cars started in 1998, lasted until 2006. Disney offered bit's of trailers and proof of life here and there. Ghost Corps is sure as hell keeping a tight lid on these projects. Really hope Netflix is nearly done and not just getting started.

If it's a full 3D show, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see it until late 2025/early 2026.

Gil Kenan mentioned during FE press that an art presentation had recently been completed. Don't know if that was just concept art or full rigs though.
Also I'm just happy an MST3K writer is attached. Loved the Netflix episodes.

Just in time for Ghostbusters 6, or 7. I can't wait to see how close to the show the toys are going to be over the 3D printed versions. Would be kind of nice if the show serves as an inbetweteen during Frozen Empire and the next movie.

Ya it’s weird to imply it’s just now greenlit. I assume it was actually greenlit when it was announced...publicly by Jason. There’s even artwork already like Gil mentioned. I’m gonna guess they mean going into full production. I hope they’re further along than just starting.

I looked back and yes, they seem to be further along. Back in March, Kenan said he saw a presentation reel and the show was in the writing stage - i.e. scripts were being written. Kenan specified the specific state the show was in was "full development." In retrospect, yes, the Variety title is odd. The headline should have just been about Kalan and the series being 3D.
