GB1 is the gold standard. The others? Idk, theyre all such a mixed bag of misfits it really depends on what mood youre in and what criteria youre going by. Lol
If by film “quality” it be:
Gb1, Gb3, Gb2, Gb4
If its pure GB juiciness and entertainment:
Gb2, gb1, gb4,gb3
As a “Ghostbusters” movie; FE works better than Afterlife. Gets right to it, and the OGs are there throughout making it feel more like a sequel whereas Afterlife felt more like a “spinoff/soft reboot” that took a bit to get going as it needed to retell the franchise all over again.

Idk man. No sequences that compare to Venkmans show? “Repossessed” is a pretty frickin hilarious scene, Aykroyd kills it and i think its a fair to rank it next to World of the Psychic.
Are you ranking it next it just because it’s got a similar thing of them hosting a show? In that regard yeah it totally can be compared. I’d agree with that.
But as like an act of writing, performing, directing & comedy? Sure you could compare them but to me it’s super clear which one reigns supreme.
Repossessed is a fun scene but World of the Psychic is just killer line after killer line. Venkman’s look to the camera when Elaine starts digging in to her story is peak Venkman.
Here’s what I thought when the Repossessed scene ended: Aww come on that could’ve gone on for another couple guests.
There’s no way I look at World of the Psychic and think, how could they have made that even better. It’s perfect as is. With Repossessed I don’t think they executed the idea to its full potential. If that makes sense. It’s a fun scene but like almost everything in this movie is feels like “wait! That’s it? You were doing so well. Come back to that” but the movies got so much story and characters to deal with that they don’t have the real estate for it.
But yeah I can see how you could compare them. I guess that’s fair.
If we take the movies on a scene by scene basis, forgetting about the overall story, forgetting about how GB1 relates to it, or how Afterlife relates to Frozen Empire. Just on a scene by scene basis I think GB2 blows Frozen Empire out of the water.
To make Ghostbusters 2 a much better film all you’d have to do if beef up the Climx and give it more heft. Frozen Empire, making it a much better film is a lot messier. Which isn’t to say it’s bad. No way. To be me those 2 original films are working on another gear and level. Which probably has a lot to do with the cast and the energy they bring. For example Frozen Empire doesn’t have a Rick Moranis or Peter MacNicol. To use baseball terminology, those are strong closers.
On a seperate note. I’d love to know how much Bill Murray made doing this movie. Any guesses?
