DVDs may not be able to hold a candle to Blu Rays in picture quality or special features these days (and the latter instance feels like a scam in itself to try force people to shift from DVDs to Blu Rays), but if either media is a scam, to me it's clearly Blu Rays, based on their extortionate retail costs.
DVDs may be getting pricier as more retailers look to abandon selling physical media, but the fact they're still here and have hung around for so long shows that plenty of people still prefer buying DVDs at $19 a pop over paying $49 for Blu Rays, and I wouldn't be surprised if DVD players/roms remain a commonplace household item over the equally-expensive Blu Ray players.
I even have a BluRay player in my console, but that hasn't encouraged me to shift to the media. I think I own three Blu Ray sets, the Ghostbusters 30th anniversary set, the 35th anniversary Trap set, and
Cleanin' Up The Town.
As someone living on a part-time salary, I'm glad DVDs are still being produced.
