It's a question that's been rattling around in my head for a little while now - How many ghosts were actually captured and stored in the time between the containment unit being rebuilt post-GB1 and 2024? Lucky's estimation that emptying the unit trap-by-trap taking approx seven years seems awfully excessive for the amount of time the GBs were actually in operation.

The majority of the escapees from the first movie were probably recaptured (minus Slimer of course) and then the second and third ghost booms of GBII and post-Afterlife respectively but these were only for a matter of years each (as we know they were out of business from the mid-late nineties to 2022-ish).
Egon says the ECU is already getting crowded in GB1 so if we assume the second unit's storage was enhanced somewhat it still seems unlikely there would be enough ghosts in there to take seven years to transfer. Maybe it has something to do with the amount of spectral mass that was captured during the climax of Afterlife?

I know we'll probably never know the answer but... Speculations?

Well, in terms of what we seen in the movie the effects of the ghosts leaving didn't really seem to indicate that many, you had the big red surge at the start but the red tracers that went out across the city (all separate ghosts) seemed to be pretty minimal.

My big question is, where's gozer? Was she in the containment unit, was she split up into the units at the research lab, was she left in traps in a field with a power supply attached to them?

The amount of released spooks flying around did look a little lackluster. :( I mean they emulated the effects of GB1 beautifully, but would it have hurt to add an extra dozen? This was supposed to be a big deal, after all...

I honestly can't imagine that Ray and Winston would have been happy to just leave the traps buried at the farmhouse, but on the flip side would they trust the 20+ year old unused, unserviced ECU to hold a demigod, two terror dogs and a huge cloud of PKE energy? I'm surprised they didn't at least hint at Gozer's fate in FE, unless it was in a deleted scene.

Don't you need Vinz Clortho and Zuul to bring Gozer back? I thought it was cemented that the ritual needs done for Gozer to manifest? How do we know both of them were in the firehouse containment unit? I'd assume Winston was smart enough to keep both the gatekeeper and keymaster in separate containment units which wouldn't be hard because there's like 10 in the new research lab.

I guess technically Zuul and Vinz need to inhabit human hosts to conduct the "physical" part of the ritual (bow-chicka-bow-wow) so in their spectral forms they're fairly safe, but keeping them apart still seems like a good idea. But also Ray talks about the PRC containment units as being one single system, that might just be him hyperbolically speaking though.

The filmmakers had explicitly stated that Frozen Empire was the start of the 'post-gozerian era' of Ghostbusters, so it makes sense that she would be mentioned as little as possible in the movie to solidify that idea in the audience's minds. But considering Gozer was the single greatest threat the busters ever faced (on-screen, not counting cartoons/comics) you'd think the OGBs would be more than a little concerned that Garraka would unwittingly release Gozer (who is arguably worse).

So that leaves three scenarios:
1) The traps were left buried in Summerville (super duper unlikely)

2) Gozer was contained in the firehouse ECU (unlikely given how no one seems concerned about Gozer escaping during Garraka's assault)

3) Gozer was contained in the PRC unit(s) before the Spenglers moved to NY and they just assumed she was in the firehouse unit (most likely scenario)

Also, just to complicate things more, there's an image floating around (can't find it right now) of a trap with a bit of tape on it with handwriting that says 'Gozer - Do not open!!' but I'm not sure if this was a fan build or actually from the FE movie set, and even then it might not be anything more than a joke by the prop department.
