Hey guys! Long time lurker, just made an account to share my work on my Spirit Halloween pack.
I’ve been wanting to build a pack for a long time, and I finally decided to pull the trigger.
Initially I bought it with the intention of doing a simple texture pass, and repaint… but once I got it I couldn’t not tear it apart. My plan now is to get this baby as screen accurate as possible.
I started by cutting out the cyclotron and the bumper. I used a xacto saw blade for all of the removal for extra precision.
Once I chopped those out, and realized how easy it was, I decided to remove the booster/booster frame.
Then I started filling the gaps with various widths of styrene. I’m using a plastic cement to weld them in, followed by gap filling with bondo.
After staring at it for a while I decided that the material behind the injectors had to go, to allow them to hang freely as they do in the original pack. I also decided that the pack needed to have the screen accurate recessed portion under the PPD.
SO I cut that out as well. Also I chopped out the clippard, with the intention of raising that area and attaching a better quality replica.
After I get these areas cleaned up and rebuilt with styrene, I’ll be cutting out the HGA and replacing it with an actual tube, most likely PVC.
I’ve already began building a replacement booster out of various PVC, a buddy is 3d printing me a cyclotron and bumper. I have a handful of parts on order from Etsy. Including a screen accurate ribbon cable, and resin cast clippards.
I’ll continue to share my progress if this post gets any traction.
I hope my image links work. Like I said this is my first time posting.
