Out of all the GB marketing from all the various films, what’s been your person favorite?

Mine has to be the so called “international” trailer from GB2 where there’s completed FX and Randy Edelman score.

Janosz saying “Evil?” After Ray says “it’s like pure concentrated evil” is an awesome edit. I just love the energy the trailer has. Makes me pumped to watch it.

Anyways, here it is:

The very first initial teaser for Afterlife. Because it followed a day of "What do you MEAN they're doing another Ghostbusters?" with "HOLY **** IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING OH MY GOD!". Even if it was brief and nothing from it was used, seeing something made it feel like a new Ghostbusters was actually happening, no more rumors.

I have to go with the first Afterlife teaser also. Because it was that music, that proton pack sound, that Ecto-1. The ones we'd been waiting for for so long, back on the big screen.

And honestly, it was the music that really got me. Hearing that wonderful Elmer Bernstein soundtrack just screamed "This is it! This is the REAL Ghostbusters!!!"

It's a bit of a cheat, because it wasn't used at the time and only came to light as a blu-ray feature, but this has to be the gold standard, surely? https://youtu.be/P0alNjmOTlM?si=X5LmoyuFttPwdcyM

OMG how have I never seen that??

What the context of that? They totally should’ve used that as a trailer. That’s hilarious. I love GB2 stuff I’ve never seen before. Thanks so much for sharing that Rob!

Do we know why they didnt use it? It’s brilliant. I gotta watch it again

This was from the 2019 GB1/GB2 steelbook that had a lot of 'new' special features added. This was touted as a 'rare unfinished teaser trailer' that included the full version of the GB2 commercial.

No, I don't think we know why it was discarded.

Yeah this is what it basically boils down to. I didn't have to wait as long as most people here (I only had to wait 10 years and I came in with the video game), but having that music, that proton pack sound, that Ecto-1 the day after the announcement...it was like several Christmases all at once.

It’s unfinished? Do you think they mean the FX?

That has to be my new fav for sure. It’s kind of blowing my mind, I’m trying to put myself in the shoes on a movie goer in 1988/89 and seeing that. With that awesome ending of Louis! An alternate take too! :D

I was secretly hoping I’d see something new when I created this thread but man! I’m shocked it wasn’t used. The extra bits of the commercial are hilarious. Egon getting hit in the face, Egon mouthing lines.

I have that 2019 4K steelbook so I can’t believe I missed it,

Time to give it another watch. The quality of the footage is amazing. :)

Yes, I think it's the FX. If I remember right, at the very least, the Scoleri bust in that one has unfinished VFX or needs VFX added i.e. proton streams? I could only guess it was a time thing and they stopped work on making another trailer. Or maybe Ivan Reitman or the studio wasn't feeling it.

And it is pretty cool the GB2 commercial used elements originally in a commercial in a GB1 draft.

Agreed, it's a really cool one. Makes me yearn for a GB2 assembly cut just like the GB1 that came out on the last collection. Who knows what other gems there are yet to be seen by our eyes. The GB1 cut blew my mind (and was another reminder there's always more to learn about GB1).

It’s terrific. I think I’ve watched it like a dozen times since you posted it. Yet another reason why this website is so awesome. Here was this new piece of GB2 content sitting under my nose, I even own the set it comes in, but it takes someone like you to post it for me to see.

I keep thinking in my head “How could they not use that!?l” it’s so perfect for a teaser.

You know what it reminds me of? A little bit. Kids of the 1990s will remember this but back in the day studios use to make little short film teasers for their big tent pole films. Not unlike the one from Afterlife except some were pretty major & elaborate.

For example the first teaser for the Sam Raimi/Tobey Spider-Man was this crazy bank robbery sequence where these thugs rob a bank mid day, manage to escape by flying away in a helicopter when suddenly the helicopter jerks to a complete stop mid air. Alarms sound in the chopper. The thugs start to freak when the chopper is pulled back at tremendous speed before the camera pulls out to reveal the helicopter stuck in a massive spiderweb weaved halfway between the twin towers. Then we see some quick shots of Spider-Man in action.

Of course it was JUST pre 9/11 when the teaser came out. Then it was pulled.

Anyways the trailer u showed reminded me a bit of that. There were a few other famous ones. Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Godzilla, War of the Worlds, Hulk.

What a missed opportunity. But any chance to see more of the boys is great. Thanks again

Hard agree on the GB2 commercial teaser! No clue why it wasn't used. Even Ivan was pondering out loud why they didn't use it at GB Fan Fest. What's cool is you can kind of tell when they were working on it based on the footage used, mostly NYC footage with a few shots of the courtroom scene, which was the first thing shot in LA. That puts us right near the end of December!

There was another teaser in the works prior to that one that I have most of the animation elements for. I used a previously unseen logo animation from that teaser in my edit/tag of the GB2 commercial.

This isn't my channel, but someone reuploaded it. I don't really care, and it's easier to link.

The GB2 teaser trailer that was eventually released is pretty cool, though. I love hearing the Bernstein tracks with the GB2 footage!

I would so love it to see that commercial on TV late at night in 1989. :)

Another bit I forgot to mention, huge props to Alex Newborn for providing the clear image of Janine's Cosmopolitan magazine cover. Sony legal loves blurring things, and the blurry magazine on the otherwise clear film scan really bugged me. I got through the opening shot pretty easily, but the wide shot was a massive pain to make look right. I gave up.

A huge lack of cheesy advertising has been missing from modern GB. I thought for sure we would see the kids making Youtube ads or something.

Speaking of modern GB, I think the Afterlife teaser might actually be my fav. Releasing a teaser trailer the day after making the announcement of the movie in print is awesome movie making. I'll never forget my co-worker mentioning it while I was driving. "It's a fan trailer, dude. They only announced the project last night" were my words. That was a fun day.

Yeah, Paul and Devilmanozzy noticed they started doing that as early as 2014-2015-ish when they started putting stills up on the official website. Maybe before that. But it sorta lines up to when Ghost Corps was formed. Have Paul and Devilmanozzy got stories about 'newly' blurred stills from the classic movies...

Agreed! Too bad they didn't sneak it into the news report's montage at the beginning or something like that then release the full version as a bonus on the home release.

The unused GB2 teaser isn't just good, to me it's one of the best teaser ever. I cannot imagine how the reaction to an audience in 89 would've been to see that pop up before another movie. We are so jaded now with teaser coming years before actual projects, and sometimes those don't even come to fruition. Would've blown my mind back in the day.

And I gotta be honest, hearing Harold yell and the unison "Ready to believe you" with Winston just gets me pumped.
