I'll admit I'm not so sure... We had the Minimates and Mego-style figures in 2009 and 2010, Diamond's 7-inch figures in 2018/2019, the Kenner Classics reissue in 2020-2025 (and beyond) the Mondo figures which started in 2024, and the Funko Pops also this year (along with a few other bits, such as the
Visual History... While we're seeing a lot of stuff now, the revival wave we're currently riding will wind down eventually, and a lot of bases have been covered in terms of figures that can be based on RGB...
By the end of this year, we'll have had the small collectable LEGO-minifigure-like treatment, the 7-inch modern upgrade treatment, the retro doll upgrade treatment, the retro vintage re-release treatment, the 6-inch modern upgrade treatment, and the vinyl collectable treatment... The
Real Ghostbusters figure market may be tapped out by the time Mondo's run comes to an end.
I'd like to be proven wrong of course, but I think it may be quite a long time (I anticipate years, here) before we see another RGB toy revival after Mondo and Hasbro's efforts reach their conclusions, if we ever see another one... While the show remains popular and endures in fond memories, it's not as popular as
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
Transformers,
Star Trek or
Star Wars which have all enjoyed multiple releases and re-releases and new waves of toys based on their various media releases and characters.
I'd just be prepared for the possibility we might not get any new toys/figures once the current projects come to an end, and that what future projects we get may not live up to the standard Mondo have set.
