You heard it here first!

Sony and Vivendi Games are both aiming for the same release date of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and the new Ghostbusters Blu-Ray DVD. Both are hoping to be released on October 21st, 2008.. while neither is set in stone, both are likely to be released on the same day. Vivendi is working on a Best Buy Exclusive promotion, as well as promotions with Target and GameStop.

Sony and Vivendi are also teaming up for a DVD Cash Promotion. All copies of the Vivendi Ghostbusters: The Video Game for XBox 360, PS2, & Wii will come with a DVD cash credit good towards the purchase of the Ghostbusters Collectors Edition DVD (while supplies last).

UPDATE: I forgot to mention Vivendi is working on getting Dan Ayrkoyd and Harold Ramis to appear with the Ecto-1 at Comic Con. They say Harold Ramis is somewhat more available than Aykroyd is... so we will see. I'm sure Ernie Hudson would be there for sure as he is the most approachable Ghostbuster around.

As I said back in November...

If Sony doesn't release a three disc boxset next October that looks similar to this for the PS3, then they completely fail at cross media marketing.
It looks like someone at Sony get to keep their job after all.

PLEASE tell me if anybody knows more details on this. I've been trying to wait to reserve my copy until I can find out if somebody is going to be giving away anything special. Now, from this, it sounds like Best Buy, Target, and GameStop may be doing something. Off the top of my head, I forget, though... Is Vivendi making the higher tech PS3 and XBox 360 type versions, or the more cartoony PS2 and Wii type versions? I'm going to get the PS3 version.

If I'm not mistaken, how it works is Vivendi sorta controlls all of it through the Sierra name, but has delegated the creation of the games themselves, giving the Wii, PS2 and presumably DS versions to Red Fly Studios, and the 360, PS3, PC versions to Terminal Reality.

I believe that's how the hierarchy has been set up.

Oh cool! Thanks. So, then Vivendi is all of the games, I guess. Well, that is good then. I REALLY REALLY hope we can find out more information very soon, then. I'm going crazy to reserve my copy, but I'm trying to wait to find out if I there is a specific store I should choose that will be giving away something cool.
