As reported by Variety, Sony Pictures has chosen to reschedule the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, moving the planned release back by a week to November 19th, 2021.

Well, at least it's not another year this time.

Shoot - at this point they should have moved it FORWARD to Halloween weekend - at least there is a logical tie-in. I'm not feeling Ghostbusters and Thanksgiving, sorry. Use your heads, Sony!

They are.

The move to the 19th gives them the chance to take the IMAX slots that were vacated by the Top Gun sequel, as well as move further away from Eternals's first and second weeks of release.

This wasn't done on a whim, they saw a opportunity to improve Afterlife's chances at the box office and took it.

I really doubt the Eternals will do that well. But I see your point about the IMAX screens.

Yes but we have yet to see this film. Jason has been saying over and over again that the movie he wanted to make is about a family. It’s part of his family legacy after all. Thematically that seems to tie in very well with Thanksgiving! I’m so excited for it!

Hell, why not. Much like the game, it'll take place around Thanksgiving.
