[History] [Revise]Clippard Instrument Laboratory Parts
William Leonard Clippard, Jr. founded Clippard Instrument Laboratory in 1941, (Inc., 1946). The initial product line consisted of electrical test equipment, magnetic windings, and radio frequency coils. The first miniature fluid power devices designed and built by Clippard were for use in the manufacture of this equipment. In the early 1950's, Clippard introduced Minimatic® components as a new product line. The need for miniature pneumatics was widespread, and since no such products had been previously available, the Minimatic® line was successful enough to become Clippard's primary product line. Until his retirement in 1977, Leonard Clippard continued to be a pioneer in miniature pneumatics.
Today, the company is managed by William L. Clippard, III, president and Robert L. Clippard, vice-president. The company's growth continues today, maintaining its position as the industry's most complete supplier of quality, miniature pneumatic components. Clippard innovation has led to many industry "firsts," such as the establishment of the 10-32 thread as a port. Products that Clippard first introduced to the industry include: fluidic amplifiers, unique plug-in air logic modules, and micro-based computer control air logic control systems. The complete Minimatic® line includes over 3,400 standard products. Some of the many products offered include valves, cylinders, fittings, modular components, push buttons, stainless steel cylinders, electronic manifold cards, circuit analyzers, and pre-piped manifold subplates.
The Proton Pack features several parts made by Clippard Instrument Laboratory Inc. Most of these parts are still available unchanged since the early 80's they can be purchased via their online store, or the GB Fans Shop! |

|
The Clippard Modular Valve, R-701, adds great cosmetic value to the gun. It is believed to act as one of the main adjustments for the particle stream. It is most likely what Venkman would have used to shorten his stream to prevent Spengler's face from being burned off in Ghostbusters.
The R-701 is made by the Clippard Minimatic corporation located in Cincinnati OH. It was one of the first found items for the Proton Packs, as it says right on its label what it is, and who makes it. The most amazing thing about this item is that it is still available from Clippard (and hasn't changed in 25 years).
Clippard Minimatic:"R-701 is a self-relieving, adjustable pressure regulator with multiple output ports. Pressure can be piped directly from ports 2,4,6 and 8. Eliminates need for additional fittings. Unused output ports should be plugged." |
The Clippard R-701 is installed on the gun with the schematic and "R-701" side facing up, with the Clippard label towards the bottom of the gun. It is mounted using the screws that come with the valve, they are 10-32 size slotted round heads.
Clippard also makes several suitable alternatives to the R-701, so if you can't find one of the R-701's locally you may be able to find one of the other, similar pieces, and it's likely that no one will know the difference. |

|
The Clippard Modular Valve, R-331, is a varied adjustment located on the back of the Proton Pack, and mounted on the Spacer. It is most likely one of the final adjustable parts past the crank generator before the particles make their way to the gun.
The R-331 is made by the Clippard Minimatic corporation located in Cincinnati OH. It was one of the first found items for the Proton Packs, as it says right on its label what it is, and who makes it. The most amazing thing about it, is its still available from Clippard and hasn't changed in 25 years.
Clippard Minimatic:"R-331 and R-333 are dual element combinations consisting of a fully ported, spring return, 3-way valve and an adjustable flow control to provide a delay "IN" function. Input signal at port 4 will be delayed through adjustable flow control and will delay." |
The Clippard R-331 is installed on the pack with the schematic and "R-331" side facing up (towards the sky), with the Clippard label towards the bottom of the pack. It is mounted using socket head cap screws size 10-32.
Clippard also makes several suitable alternatives to the R-331 (see the R-333, R-501, or R-502), so if you can't find one of the R-331's locally you might be able to find one of the other similar ones and no one will know the difference. |

|
The Clippard #11752-1 barb is seen on the Proton Gun on the rear instrument bar and rear cylinder, attached together by a length of 1/4" OD green hose. The barb is 1/8" ID. They are also used in conjunction with the #15090 fitting below. The packs in Ghostbusters 2 used this part to hold the blue wiring in place on the Dale RH-50 resistor, however this is a negligible detail. |

|
Three of these Clippard #15090 fittings are found on the Proton Pack. They are used in conjunction with the #11752-1 hose barbs to form an Elbow fitting.Used on the HGA, beam line and on the metal Ion arm of GB1 packs. |
