Mondo Teases New Real Ghostbusters Action Figures

Image

At C2E2 today in Chicago, the Funko-owned toy company "Mondo" teased a new project related to The Real Ghostbusters during a panel. Mondo is best known for their statues, sofubi, action figures, posters, and more. There was immediate speculation about the nature of the unveiling. Last October, Alex Brewer, a sculptor for Mondo, showcased concept art for a potential Real Ghostbusters toy line.

In an interview today with Toy Anxiety, Mondo's Senior Creative Director, attackpeter, unveiled what the Real Ghostbusters project would entail. Peter explained that Mondo would be producing 6-1/2 inch scale fully articulated action figures based on The Real Ghostbusters designs by Alex Brewer. These designs, which were initially just a fan-made side project six months ago, will now be brought to life by Mondo.

Peter confirmed that the line would feature characters directly from The Real Ghostbusters animated series, with a strong emphasis on ghosts and accessories. Figures would primarily be released in Deluxe 2-Packs, each containing two figures and an assortment of accessories. While the price is not yet confirmed, Mondo and others have produced 2-Pack figures in the $80-$125 range. The success of this line will depend entirely on fan response and demand; if demand is high, more options may become available for future products. This line could potentially include action figures of iconic characters such as Sam Hain, The Bogeyman, and The Sandman, among others.

Below are Alex Brewer's original concept figures for The Real Ghostbusters, with additional views available on their Instagram.

Review: Frozen Empire is a perfect Ghostbusters film.

Image

A review for a Ghostbusters film is probably the last thing you need to read from a site that is dedicated to all things Ghostbusters. That being said, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a perfect Ghostbusters movie. It was made by Ghostbusters fans for Ghostbusters fans, and the love and passion shine through with every member of the cast and in every single scene.

I was lucky enough to attend the New York City Premiere and hang out on the red carpet with the cast before and during the movie. It was an incredible honor to be there, to help cover the event for the Yes Have Some podcast, take a few photos and videos, and chat with the stars of the movie for a few minutes near the entrance to the carpet. Putting a crown on the event was Bill Murray anointing us and the rest of the cast upon his triumphant, albeit late, entrance.

My first viewing of the movie was there in the auditorium with the cast and crew. There was an amazing electric vibe in the room. Within a few dozen seats were everyone: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Paul Rudd, McKenna Grace, Carrie Coon, Annie Potts, William Atherton, Patton Oswalt, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, Celeste O'Connor, James Acaster, Emily Lind, and more. The excitement of seeing the movie and everything else going on left me feeling rushed. The movie felt too short; everything felt like it went by too fast. By the time the third act arrived, it felt like the movie still had an hour to go and then it was over. Many critics echoed these sentiments, feeling overwhelmed by the abundance of characters and the perceived disjointedness. It is a strange feeling, the anticipation of what is going to happen, wondering what the next thing will be, until finally you realize it's over. That anticipation really wreaked havoc upon the first viewing for me.

But wait, didn't I say: "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a perfect Ghostbusters movie"?

It wasn't until the second viewing that everything really clicked. No longer burdened by the anticipation for 'what happens next', I was able to enjoy every element of the movie. Each scene, each act, each set of dialog builds upon one another, moving the story forward in such a perfect way. By the time the third act comes along, it no longer feels rushed; it feels like a brilliant conclusion to the story. The additional storylines and new characters, such as Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster, and Emily Lind, were welcomed additions. Additional lore and backstory provided by Patton Oswalt yielded a set of fun situations. The movie had so many amazing performances. Dan Aykroyd crushed it as Ray Stantz. Any scene with McKenna Grace was absolutely perfect and only aided and improved by Emily Lind's character. Logan Kim's Podcast remained easily one of the funniest and best characters of the series. James Acaster added a well-needed amount of dry humor, reminiscent of Harold Ramis' Egon Spengler. Finally, Kumail Nanjiani's character was hilarious in every way, and he absolutely crushed the role.

The completely new and unique villain in Garraka was perfect. There was a great amount of build-up and slow introduction to the character. Slowly, backstory and information of Garraka trickles in. It is very much in the same vein as Ghostbusters 1 & 2 in that regard. When Dan Aykroyd's Ray Stantz finally breaks down the lore of the 'Death Chill', you are feeling it running down your spine. There is a perfect balance of horror and comedy that matches the style of Ghostbusters 1 and 2 quite well.

The movie was much better on the second viewing. Personally, I cannot wait to watch it several more times over the weekend. It really was a perfect movie for Ghostbusters fans. Congratulations to Gil Kenan, Jason Reitman, and everyone at Ghost Corps, along with all the other talented individuals involved in the production. You all absolutely nailed it. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is not just a film; it's a celebration of everything we love about Ghostbusters.

Hook & Ladder №8 gets a icy makeover for Frozen Empire premiere

Image

With the general release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire a little over a week away, final preparations are taking place for the world premiere, which will be taking place in New York on Thursday, 14th of March.

One such preparation is an icy makeover for venerable Ghostbusters landmark, Hook & Ladder №8, which began at the start of the month with the reorientation of the replica sign which has hung on the facade of the Firehouse since it was presented by the Buffalo Ghostbusters back in 2021[/b][/url].

Now hung sideways over the archway, just as how it had appeared in Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, the next stage of the makeover could take place, and photos on the official Hook & Ladder №8 Instagram Account have revealed that the facade and doors have been dressed up with frost and icicles, to simulate the look of Garraka's attack.
