Extreme Ghostbusters
Wachtel wrote two episodes of Extreme Ghostbusters:
- The Luck of the Irish, directed by Frank Squillace and first aired November 3, 1997.
- Back in the Saddle: Part 2.
In "The Luck of the Irish," an evil leprechaun is freed from a mystic circle in the Sons of Erin Society Building and hunts the descendants of the men who imprisoned him and seized his gold, cursing Garrett Miller with bad luck along the way.
A surviving outline and first draft of "The Luck of the Irish" show how the story changed before broadcast. The outline opened with workmen disassembling a castle-like building imported from Ireland at the turn of the century to ship it to an amusement park in Florida.1 It also featured victims who do not appear in the finished episode, including William McCoomb, a magician performing at the Lyceum Theatre, and Colleen Goldberg of the Goldberg Department Stores, who is taken by the Death Coach from her float in the St. Patrick's Day parade.234 In that draft, the boxer McTavish fought a giant from Irish folklore named Cuchullin rather than the generic emanation seen on screen.5 An outline and first draft of the script have been preserved and made available online.6
