Real Ghostbusters: NOW Comics Volume 1 Issue 2

The Real Ghostbusters NOW Comics Volume 1 Issue 2 is the second installment of NOW Comics' ongoing The Real Ghostbusters series. Published in August 1988, it continues the storyline begun in Issue 1 and concludes the alien time-bandit adventure involving a mysterious entity called The Slug. The story was written by James Van Hise with pencils by John Tobias.

Plot

Picking up from the cliffhanger of Issue 1, the creature calling itself The Slug reveals his true name: Sl'g. Rather than being a threat, Sl'g intervenes to help Winston Zeddemore rescue Egon Spengler and Peter Venkman from their captors. Sl'g explains that the four time bandits, named Turek, Cowan, Gard, and Bethany, were once his own assistants. They betrayed him by stealing his secrets and turning his own knowledge against him and others.

Working together, the Ghostbusters and Sl'g free Ray Stantz and overpower all four bandits. Once the threat is neutralized, Sl'g delivers a final revelation: he is not actually an alien at all, but a ghost. He had fabricated his alien identity to earn the Ghostbusters' trust, knowing they would be reluctant to cooperate with a spirit. Having accomplished his goal, Sl'g departs aboard the Nautilus alongside Captain Nemo, sailing off into the unknown.
