Transformers/Ghostbusters: Ghosts of Cybertron #2
5 min read
Transformers/Ghostbusters: Ghosts of Cybertron #2 is the second issue of a five-part IDW Publishing mini-series crossing over the Ghostbusters and Transformers franchises. Written by Erik Burnham with art by Dan Schoening and colors by Luis Antonio Delgado, it was released on July 17, 2019. The issue deepens the collision between Cybertron's civil war and the Ghostbusters' world, as the team learns that a giant shape-shifting robot has been masquerading as Ecto-1 while a deal struck in the shadows of Cybertron reshapes the threat they face.
Synopsis
The Ghostbusters discover that their vehicle has been replaced by an impostor: Starscream, a Decepticon capable of disguising himself, had taken Ecto-1's place. When Ectronymous (Ectotron) tries to explain the situation, Egon Spengler struggles to accept that the new arrival is an alien, a callback to his established skepticism from the IDW ongoing series. Ray Stantz wonders aloud whether Starscream animated the vehicle the way ghosts animate objects in the animated canon.
On Cybertron, the fallout from Gozer's arrival in the previous issue continues. Megascream holds court amid a devastated landscape; among those present in the battle are Hotlink, mass-produced Sentinels, Onslaught, Predaking, Dropkick drones, Devastator, Crosscut, and Straxus. Megatron is confronted by a figure visually echoing the Red Wizard from Transformers G1 lore, named here as Kremzeek, who calls Gozer by its title of the Traveler and offers Megatron a deal, mirroring the moment in "Transformers: The Movie" in which Unicron offers a dying Megatron a new existence at the cost of his freedom. Megatron's body is shown crumbling, a visual repeated from that film. Back on Earth, Ectronymous mentions the Allspark, a legendary Cybertronian artifact, and references Optimus Prime. Peter Venkman reacts with a startled "Dah!" much as he does in the first film. Winston Zeddemore and Egon grapple with the revelation that Cybertron's civil war, Gozer's arrival, and their own cases are now entangled.
