This was the original Ecto-1K, my old 1998 Subaru Outback. Our conversion project began in June of 2006, with actual construction of the rack beginning in August. Our goal was to create an ecto conversion that had zero impact on the condition of the car. This meant that the whole thing needed to be removable and could not damage the car in any way. We accomplished this with a combination of padded magnets, 200lb-test zip-ties, and rubber pads. The whole thing took about 15 minutes to set up. The finished car was rolled out on september 22, 2006. The fastest it ever travelled was 104 mph with no damage to the car or rack. The car was totaled on October 26 when it was rear-ended by a semi truck.
