Proton Pack

4-23-08 - Update! I just sprayed the gun body it's first coat of black satin this morning. I'll let it cure in the basement for nine days before I'll top coat it with satin lacquer. After the lacquer, I need to wait another two days before I'll let my dad install all of the various boards and wires that'll make this thing finally roar into life and complete the project that's been going on since June of '07. I hope to have the rest of the labels printed and added too. I'll upload more pictures when I have time. This is a proton pack that I bought off of eBay a few months ago from someone in California. When I opened it, the bumper had cracked and the Ion Arm had broken off. The Booster had started to come loose and broke off soon afterward. The gun had some black tape on it and I realized that this was going to need more than just a bit of touch up paint. I brought it to my basement and have been working on it ever since. It now has working Cyclotron lights that can vary speed and working Powercell lights. It won't be done by Halloween, but the mantra on this board seems to be "Take your time. There's always next Halloween." Boy do I believe it. My dad helped me with the electronics and a lot of the gluing. I can't believe how many times I thought something was done then I woke up the next morning and I started over again. The Booster was in this category. I had top-coated it with paint, thought I was done, then stripped it off and started all over again. This pack features real Clippard valves, correct tubing, Legris elbows, real brass Dale resistors and is made primarily of wood. The gun is made from plastic with metal knobs to come. I'll be adding more once I get it done. Tell me what you think!
