Here's the uni in progress.
The flight suit is the $35 Deluxe Air Force Style Flight Suit By Tru-Spec from armysurplusforless.com
It was too khaki for me, so I dyed it.
Dying process (washing machine)
- in 2.25 cups boiling water, mix 1 packet Rit Pearl Grey and .25 packet Navy Blue
- agitate in hot water for 30 min (keep resetting to agitate so it doesn't drain!), switch to cold water during rinse
- warm/cold cycle
- use a couple cups of bleach and hot water to rinse out any residual dye in the washer
this entire process was done twice with a few weeks in between since I wasn't quite happy with the first run
Hose and connector parts all from Home Depot. I boil dyed the hose on my stove top with roughly a .25 packet of Rit Golden Yellow for half hour or so. Came out pretty good I think. Hose connector was just ghetto rigged, but it's nice because the hose fits very snugly and can actually rotate independently of the rest of the connector (and my pants!).
Patches from the shop here, very nice. I used Velcro to attach them.
Elbow pads...same process as the hose, but used Rit Black dye (not pearl grey). Some people say the dye doesn't set in the bubble part, but it seemed to for me. they were purchased from ldortone on eBay. Most guys will want size large. Medium works, but very tight. Hose attaches to the back of my belt with a small bolt that goes through one of the belt holes.
I have an old Army pistol belt. It's green but it'll do until I get something more accurate. I see some cheap ones on Amazon.com
No, I'm not the girl in the photo :)
