Berkeley trained at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he studied from 1991 to 1993.1

    Career

Berkeley entered professional animation in the mid-1990s, building an early body of work across action, science fiction, and adventure genres before settling into a long-term relationship with Warner Bros. Animation.

His first major television directing credits came in 1997 on Extreme Ghostbusters and were followed in 1999 by work on Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles and Godzilla: The Series (3 episodes). He also worked as a director on Men in Black: The Series during this period.2

From 2001 to 2002, Berkeley directed eight episodes of Jackie Chan Adventures for Sony Pictures Television.3 He then joined Warner Bros. Animation as a regular director and storyboard artist, contributing seven episodes of The Batman in 2005 and a single episode of Teen Titans in 2004.3

In 2008, Berkeley directed five episodes of Transformers: Animated, including "Velocity," "Autoboot Camp," "A Bridge Too Close, Part I," "A Bridge Too Close, Part II," and "Human Error, Part I."4 The following year he helmed the animated feature Scooby-Doo! and the Samurai Sword (2009), which assembled a cast that included Frank Welker, Casey Kasem, Grey Griffin, Kevin Michael Richardson, and George Takei.4

Berkeley directed 20 episodes of the superhero series Young Justice beginning in 2011, one of the most substantial single-show directing runs of his career.3 That same year he directed two segments for the DC Universe animated original feature Green Lantern: Emerald Knights: "The First Lantern," depicting the origin of Avra, one of the Corps' founding members, and "Abin Sur."3 He also served as a storyboard artist on Batman: Year One (2011) and the animated short DC Showcase: Green Arrow (2010).3

Later credits include storyboard work on DC Showcase: Death (2019), co-directing Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham (2023) with Sam Liu, and directing three episodes of Batman: Caped Crusader (2024). He also served as a storyboard artist on Creature Commandos (2024), Watchmen: Chapter I & II (2024), and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One (2024).3

Berkeley is an Annie Award-winning storyboard artist.2
