Early life and education
Eric Reich earned a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, completing the program in 2007. During that period he also completed an early industry internship in production services at NBCUniversal.
Career
After graduating, Reich joined The Montecito Picture Company, the production company founded in 1998 by Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock,3 initially as an office manager (2007 to 2010). His organizational role there gave him direct exposure to Reitman's development slate, which at the time included titles ranging from the drama Chloe (2009), directed by Atom Egoyan and produced by Reitman, to the romantic comedy No Strings Attached (2011), on which Reich received an assistant credit.4
In March 2010, Reich was promoted to executive assistant to Ivan Reitman himself, a position he held for five years.5 That close working relationship put him at the center of Reitman's creative and business decisions, and it established the foundation for his subsequent producing career.
When Ghost Corps was incorporated in March 2015 as a subsidiary of Columbia Pictures Industries to manage the expansion of the Ghostbusters brand across film, television, merchandise, and other media,6 Reich moved into a brand and franchise executive role there. Concurrently, through Sony Pictures Entertainment, he took an associate producer credit on Ghostbusters (2016), directed by Paul Feig.2 That film represented Ghost Corps' first major theatrical production.
Reich remained embedded in the Ghost Corps operation through the development, production, and release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, earning a co-producer credit alongside Ivan Reitman on the 2021 film directed by Jason Reitman.2 His role extended through brand management and franchise strategy, acting as the day-to-day steward of the Ghostbusters intellectual property on the Sony lot in Culver City, California.
Following Ivan Reitman's death in February 2022,3 Reich moved into a senior role at Sony Pictures Digital Productions, where he currently holds the title of Senior Vice President, Brand Management.1
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016)
Reich served as associate producer on Ghostbusters (also known as Ghostbusters: Answer the Call), directed by Paul Feig and released in July 2016.2 The film was one of Ghost Corps' first major productions following the company's formation the previous year,6 and Reich's credit reflects both his franchise oversight responsibilities and his transition from administrative to producing work.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Reich received a co-producer credit on Ghostbusters: Afterlife, produced by Ivan Reitman and directed by Jason Reitman.2 Principal photography took place in and around Calgary, Alberta, Canada, from July 12 to October 18, 2019, under the working title "Rust City."7 The film, which serves as a direct legacy sequel to the original 1984 and 1989 films, was dedicated to both Harold Ramis and executive producer Tom Pollock.7 Reich's involvement spanned the film's development and production, consistent with his broader role managing the Ghostbusters brand at Ghost Corps.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024)
Reich's producing credit was elevated to executive producer on Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, released on March 22, 2024 and directed by Gil Kenan.28 The film was produced posthumously in honor of Ivan Reitman, who received a producer credit, and carries a dedication to him in the end titles.8 Ghost Corps was listed as a production company alongside Columbia Pictures and Right of Way Films.8
Eric Reich has maintained an unusually direct line to the Ghostbusters fan community throughout his time at Ghost Corps. He has appeared across a number of fan-run podcasts and interview programs over the years, including multiple episodes of the long-running Ghostbusters Interdimensional Crossrip podcast,9 the Frog Bros Podcast (December 2021),5 and the Extraplasm Podcast (June 2024). In these appearances he has discussed franchise developments, merchandise, gaming projects, fan events, and his own career arc from Ivan Reitman's assistant to producer. His continued engagement with fan media has made him a recognized and accessible figure on GBFans.com and across the broader Ghostbusters collector and costuming community.
