Early Life
Iona Morris was born into an entertainment family in Columbus, Ohio. Her father is Greg Morris (1933-1996), the actor best remembered for his role as electronics expert Barney Collier on the CBS television series Mission: Impossible.2 Her brother is Phil Morris, an actor who would go on to make multiple guest appearances across Star Trek productions.1 Her paternal grandfather was Francis Williams, a musician.2
Morris and her brother Phil appeared as children in the original Star Trek episode "Miri" (1966), one of their first screen appearances.1
After college she began her professional career in radio at KHJ in Los Angeles. She then transitioned to theatre, performing in the a cappella musical Mens and the comedy Sassy Mamas, before moving into television and voice acting.1
Career
Morris built a career across live-action television, animation, and voice acting, accumulating over 100 credits.3
Her most prominent live-action recurring roles were as Fiona Griffin on the daytime soap opera As the World Turns, a part she held for five years, and as Sandy Mitchell on the UPN sitcom Moesha, where she recurred for two seasons.1 Other television appearances include The Cosby Show, Murder, She Wrote, and The Wayans Bros. She appeared in the two-part Star Trek: Voyager episode "Workforce" and was among a small number of guest performers to star in an episode of the second Twilight Zone revival series.1
In film, Morris appeared in the feature-length animated production Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles (2006). Her video game credits include Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight.3
Voice Acting
Morris's most celebrated voice role is that of Storm (Ororo Munroe) in X-Men: The Animated Series (1992-1997). She voiced the character for the entire first season and the first seven episodes of the second season.4 She was subsequently replaced by Canadian actress Alison Sealy-Smith; the production company re-recorded the first season with Sealy-Smith specifically to avoid paying residuals to Morris as an American actress whenever the series aired in reruns.4 Morris also voiced Storm in Spider-Man: The Animated Series.1
Her additional animation credits include:
- Medusa in the 1994 Fantastic Four animated series
- Claudia Grant in Robotech
- Nia and Betty in Phantom 2040
- Luba on W.I.T.C.H.
- Principal Stringent on ChalkZone1

The Real Ghostbusters
Morris provided guest voices in two episodes of The Real Ghostbusters:
- "Ain't NASA-Sarily So" (Season 2, 1987): voiced characters Irahqua and Whitney
- "Moaning Stones" (Season 2, 1987): voiced characters Nuxum and Dahlia
Extreme Ghostbusters
Morris returned to the Ghostbusters franchise in 1997, providing a guest voice in the Extreme Ghostbusters episode "Dog Days". The episode's credits listed her as "Ionia Morris," a misspelling of her name.
