Janet Margolin

Janet Natalie Margolin (July 25, 1943, New York City, New York, December 17, 1993) was an American stage, film, and television actress whose career spanned three decades. She came to Hollywood after earning a Tony Award nomination at age 18 for her Broadway debut in Daughters of Silence. Director Frank Perry cast her directly from that stage production in David and Lisa (1962), in which she played a schizophrenic teenager opposite Keir Dullea. Her performance made her one of the most sought-after young actresses in 1960s Hollywood.

Her film work from that decade included major productions alongside Marlon Brando in Morituri (1965), Steve McQueen in Nevada Smith (1966), and both Charlton Heston and John Wayne in The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965). She worked with Woody Allen on two films, playing his wife in Take the Money and Run (1969) and reprising a version of the role in a flashback sequence in Annie Hall (1977). After the mid-1970s major film offers became less frequent, though she continued working in television throughout the 1980s. She was married to actor Ted Wass and died of ovarian cancer at age 50.

In Ghostbusters II (1989) Margolin portrayed the Prosecutor, the district attorney who brings criminal charges against the Ghostbusters following their unauthorized excavation under First Avenue. Working alongside an Assistant Prosecutor and supported by mayoral aide Jack Hardemeyer, she was highly confident of securing convictions. She examined the Con Edison Supervisor from First Avenue and pressed the point that the defendants had violated the judicial restraining order that forbade them from operating as paranormal investigators. During the chaos that followed Judge Wexler's sentencing, the ghost of Nunzio Scoleri seized the Prosecutor by her ankle and dragged her across the courtroom before she was carried outside through the courtroom doors, which then crackled with electricity.
