Joshua Ilan Gad (born February 23, 1981, Hollywood, Florida) is an American actor, voice actor, singer, and comedian who trained at the Carnegie Mellon College of Fine Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama in 2003. He rose to Broadway prominence as Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon (2011), a role that earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
Gad is perhaps most widely recognized for voicing Olaf the snowman in Disney's Frozen (2013) and its sequel Frozen 2 (2019), roles for which he won two Annie Awards. He reprised the character across multiple shorts, specials, and series. In live-action he played LeFou in the 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast and appeared in the Central Park animated series (2020 to 2021) and Kingdom Hearts III (2019). His television work also includes Back to You (2007 to 2008).
In Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) Gad provided the voice for Muncher, a large free-roaming ghost with an insatiable appetite for metal who is captured by Phoebe Spengler and Podcast in Summerville, Oklahoma. He came to the role through a chance encounter with director Jason Reitman on the Sony lot, who spontaneously asked whether Gad would like to voice a ghost in the film. The casting is noted in James Greene's book A Convenient Parallel Dimension, a history of the Ghostbusters franchise.
