Early life and education
Borghese attended the University of Southern California, where he earned an MFA in screenwriting through the master's program. It was there that he met Rob Turbovsky, who would become his writing partner.1 After graduation, Borghese described a difficult period in which he needed to "completely bottom out" before reconnecting with Turbovsky and committing to working together as a team.1
Career
The partnership between Borghese and Turbovsky began in earnest when Turbovsky was interning for producer Judd Apatow. Together they wrote a pilot script that secured them representation and led directly to their first professional writing job, on HBO's acclaimed tech-comedy series Silicon Valley.1 From there the pair worked across several comedy series: Lady Dynamite (Netflix), Black Monday (Showtime), No Activity, Detroiters (Comedy Central, where Borghese served as consulting producer), and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FX, executive story editor).4 They also wrote for Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television and the animated series Marvel's Hit-Monkey. Borghese additionally appeared as an actor in Other Space and New Girl.4
In feature film, Borghese and Turbovsky contributed writing to The Peanuts Movie (2015), Office Christmas Party (2016), Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2020).3 The Hollywood Reporter named the pair "Best Hollywood Punch Up Guys," a recognition of their reputation for script-doctoring and comedic revision work on produced features.1
Their most prominent credit to date is Only Murders in the Building (Hulu, 2021 to present), a mystery-comedy created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman. Borghese and Turbovsky joined as supervising producers in the first season and were promoted to co-executive producers by the third.2 They have received five Primetime Emmy nominations for the series: four for Outstanding Comedy Series (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) and one for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the episode "I Know Who Did It" (2023).2 Beyond the Emmy nominations, they have accumulated nominations for Golden Globe, Producers Guild of America, and two WGA Awards across the run of the show.1
The partnership's overall approach emphasizes careful structural preparation. Borghese has described their working method as outline-first: "The outline is difficult but you have to have it first."1 They typically divide sections of a script and reconvene to revise, often with a new outline.
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016)
Borghese and Turbovsky contributed uncredited writing to Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, directed by Paul Feig.1 The official screenplay credit belongs to Katie Dippold and Paul Feig; Borghese and Turbovsky's contribution is consistent with the punch-up and revision work for which they are recognized in the industry.3
Beyond the writing work, Borghese appears on screen in the film as the Lightboard Operator at the Stonebrook Theatre, a rock concert venue featured early in the film.3 The Stonebrook hosts a performance by the metal band Beasts of Mayhem during Rock Revenge Fest New York City XIV. During the set, a winged supernatural creature appears above the stage; the band's singer mistakes it for a lighting effect and signals his approval to the booth. The Lightboard Operator attempts to make clear he had nothing to do with it, providing a brief comedic beat before the scene escalates. The character is uncredited in the theatrical release.
