Imperato Stabile entered the film industry through a family connection rather than through a formal film school path. Her uncle, Ray Hartwick, was a unit production manager, and she took a job on the 1986 action film Out of Bounds on which he was working, abandoning earlier plans to attend veterinary school.4 That first credit as a production assistant launched a career that would take her from set-level logistics to running production divisions at two major studios.
Career
From production assistant to unit production manager
After her debut on Out of Bounds (1986), Imperato Stabile moved steadily up the production ladder over the following years, accumulating credits in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She joined the Directors Guild of America in 1994, marking her formal establishment as a production professional at the unit production manager level.1
Her most formative early relationship was with director Mike Nichols, with whom she collaborated across multiple films: Wolf (1994), Regarding Henry (1991), The Birdcage (1996, on which she served as unit production manager), and Primary Colors (1998, on which she was elevated to co-producer).4 That decade-long partnership with Nichols gave her a grounding in prestige studio filmmaking and a set of working relationships that served her throughout her career. Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016)
Imperato Stabile served as Executive Producer on Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016),2 the Sony Pictures reboot directed and co-written by Paul Feig and Katie Dippold. The film starred Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as a new team of Ghostbusters. Feig and Imperato Stabile had worked together on The Heat (2013), where she served as executive producer and unit production manager alongside him as director, making the Ghostbusters production a continuation of an established professional relationship.5
The film was produced by Amy Pascal and Ivan Reitman, with Dan Aykroyd among the executive producers alongside Imperato Stabile. It was released on July 15, 2016 and stands as a self-contained continuity distinct from the original 1984 films.2
