Early life

Rose was born on August 15, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Wilmette, Illinois.1 He comes from a broadcasting family: his father, Hilly Rose, was a prominent Los Angeles radio personality, and his mother, Sondra B. Gair, was a pioneering radio interviewer at Chicago Public Radio.2 His brother, Judd Rose, was a correspondent for ABC News and later a CNN anchor; he died June 10, 2000, while receiving treatment for a brain tumor.3 That media-immersed upbringing laid an early foundation for Rose's eventual work in front of microphones and cameras.
